I have been getting my stepson into shooting and hunting lately. I bought him his first gun, a Ruger 10/22 I got slightly used for a good price. Wanted to get him a scope, but didn't want to break the bank for a scope for this gun. Found a Center Point scope at Walmart for $65....it's actually not a bad little scope. Had it sighted in after just a few shots and the optics on it aren't bad at all. Has an illuminated mil dot scope (green or red in varying intensity). Appears to hold zero so far. 3x9 32 mm. I looked these up after I mounted it and they have fairly positive reviews for being a cheap ass scope. Seen some folks claim they work well even for a hard kicking center fire rifle.
So there's a cheap option for a scope for anyone looking to go that route. I will post a pic or two when I can.
