As many of you know, long-time poster "Clayton M." has been dealing with a series of medical problems for the past year. They are still unresolved. So much so that he was recently referred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He arrived there yesterday, along with his wife and baby son.
They have told him that he needs to be within a certain distance of the clinic, and to plan on being there for a month or more. The cheapest place he's been able to find on short notice is around $1,500 per week. He has been unable to work since two hospitalizations last November (pneumonia) and around the first of the year (blood clot).
His medical bills are already astounding, but the bigger concern is currently just being able to cover living expenses while the Mayo goes to work on trying to find the cause of his laundry list of symptoms. I wanted to put this post up and get a fund drive going to help him out. My preference is to stay hands off with the money, so I enlisted the help of our mutual friend Jay Creel, who you all would know as "Inky29" to administer a PayPal account. We are working getting a benefit account set up at a bank here in Stillwater also. I'll update when that is done. The link to donate via PayPal will be at the end of this message.
So, who is this Clayton M. guy anyway? Well, his name is Clayton McKinzie. He played football at OSU briefly under Bob Simmons. From there, he enlisted in the Army. He wound up in the Special Forces (Green Beret's) and served our country in locations all across the globe. His persona on the board was at times "asshole-ish." He can be that way in real life too, but mostly is a guy who would do anything he could to help a friend in need. He bleeds orange, and nearly made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our freedom. He's been in the civilian ranks since around 2002, and is a fixture at OSU football games.
One of our more recognized and respected posters will be along shortly to share some of the details about Clayton's medical situation. The fact that the Mayo Clinic accepted his case within days of it being submitted probably says a lot.
Go to the link below. Use jaygcreel@gmail.com as the address to send money to. Below the email address and amount fields, click on the "Personal" tab and select either Gift or Living Expense (these lower the fees associated with the transaction). I have kicked it off with a $100 donation. Wish I could do more, and will in the next week or two.
Thanks in advance for your help. Clayton is one of my best friends, and is generally unshakable. He's scared out of his wits right now, though. He needs to be fully focused on getting better, not finances.
