An attribute of a many good referees is confidence in getting it right.....the first time. When a referee has to go to a monitor to review and potentially overturn their own call, it doesn't work. Some won't do it. We've seen it many times.
Granted, an assassin is a potential transition from an unsuccessful cradle. In Fix's match, he clearly changed the hold from the successful cradle to the assassin. Separate holds and therefore separate back points. The .5 points likely won't matter, but to get a call so wrong shows a flaw in the system that should be corrected with a separate replay official (at least at the biggest tournament of the year).
