I've been rough on Kasich before but he is spot on here. The Ohio legislature was trying to increase benefit payouts for first-responders that die in the line of duty. But instead of just voting on that pieces of legislation, the scumbag political whores tacked on a $13 K raise for themselves at the last minute. They make $60K now and just tried to give themselves a $13K raise, only an ~20% raise.

Why can none of these people (national office holders as well) just vote on stand alone items, without tacking on goodies for their masters or themselves?

That's pretty bad.

This is pretty bad, too.

He's catching flak for not signing the bill, but he's definitely in the right. The legislature tacked that pay raise onto a bill they thought was a must sign. If they want/need a pay raise, be transparent about it and do it as a separate piece of legislation.

Dem scum bags prioritize illegals over American citizens, and open borders and border crisis over a running government. More than a few of them are going to have a fun time explaining that back home.

I'm sure the people of Ohio are thrilled.

What's wrong with this? If the only way to get border security and immigration reformed discussed and addressed in this country is via a government shutdown, then so be it. The dems have options here. They are welcome to pass a bill that gives a measley 5B to address this, or they can pass alternative reforms that can get a veto proof majority. Its sad that it takes these tactics to get things done, but I didn't care when it happened under Obama, and I don't care if it happens here. Seems thats the only tactic that actually lights anyones fire to move in D.C.

1. It's a boondoggle. Border security? If I'm to believe that's the purpose (and not keeping his stupid campaign promise) then it's a farce at casual glance. What kind of genius spends $5,000,000,000 on a 2,000 mile wall but leaves 95,000 miles of "open" shoreline unguarded? Haven't seen such a poor government defense policy since the maginot line.

2. Maybe we could have shore walls installed, where anybody that passes the point in the water without a passport gets eaten by a shark?

3. Mexico -- not me -- will pay for that wall. Don't forget his promise.

4. He just had two republican congresses and couldn't/didn't get anything done. Now it's the democrats fault. It's almost as if it's a clumsy ruse to blame someone for his inability to get it done when it was practical.

I think there is a better way to go than the wall. He's not going to get the votes for it...ever. He's got no plan b because he painted his way into a corner. Probably a better and cheaper way to keep the southern border secure and enforce the current laws. The wall won't keep them out as they will figure a way around it, under it, over it, etc. You would think with $5 billion you could come up with an alternative that would work better. He picked the wrong mountain to die on. This standoff is going to do nothing but look stupid.

I’d be all for double fencing with some bob wire (hehe) and a road for rapid response. A wall isn’t even geographically feasible in some parts of the border.

1 & 2) Who says our shoreline is unguarded? Aparantly you haven't any experience with our Naval and Coast Guard service branches.

3) Rhetoric. As truthful as "you can keep your doctor". Who cares. The fact is that if it reduces illegal immigration by anything more than 10% then it will pay for itself is reduced government outlays. The ROI is there, so I don't frankly care who pays for it.

4) Weird. You think anyting is done on simple majority. Whether the Dems or Reps have the houses is irrelevant as long as there aren't super majorities. Hopefully neither has one for a very long time as that's the crap that gets lopsided and poorly written legislation like the ACA passed. But I don't care who gets the blame for the government being shutdown in order to get logical border security funding realized. Its obsurd that its come to this, but so be it. I support the shuttering of our government if it cannot secure its border. Without border security, we eventually won't have a country for the government to need to run.

I disagree. I guarantee that if there is a proposal for a legitimate, viable alternative that would truly reduce the illegal immigrant influx, that it would garner support and agreement from both Trump and the conservatives who back him. But simply advocating "more drones" and continued "catch and release" doesn't meet that standard.
