If it is a great thing, finding private money would be easy. I’m pretty sure the Constitution doesn’t say the federal government is responsible for fuel efficient vehicles.
Why in the shit is it the government's responsibility to research fuel efficient vehicles!? $251m of the proposed cut is in that area alone. I am all for researching efficient-renewable energy, but I question whether $2b of our budget should be used for that, particularly with our deficit. The open market is doing well with it as it is..
On top of that, on Congress still has to pass it, which I doubt they will with drastic changes throughout.
Let all those environmental foundations/advocacy groups fund it.
I’m not a huge fan of tarrifs either. So let me get this straight - totally cool for the guberment to regulate markets through tarifs, not cool to invest in basic research to create national dominance in growth industries?
You want to win the washing machine war while ceding the next generation of transportation technology to China? Got it... Brilliant. Not.
Was the moon shot a good investment? Certainly better than subsidizing dead industries like coal...I’m not a huge fan of tarrifs either.
I don’t like subsidizing industries. Let the market drive innovation. It happens. Was the moon shot a good investment? Certainly better than subsidizing dead industries like coal...
Yeah, some of this will drive greater returns to smart VCs as the research dollars will come from private investors to a much greater degree. However, the competitive landscape also shifts such that innovation will be coming from Europe and Asia more and more.I don’t like subsidizing industries. Let the market drive innovation. It happens.
I don’t think you can compare time periods. There is plenty of investment from private industry these days. You should know.

Yeah, who needs the next generation of battery chemistry, more efficient electric motors, or AI that would enhance safety and increase efficiency. Morons.Because fuel efficient vehicles is basic research to create national dominance in growth industries...riggghhhttt gtfoh with that scrubness lol
We certainly do, but we don’t need the gubment payroll not for it. The government is terribly wasteful and corrupt.Yeah, who needs the next generation of battery chemistry, more efficient electric motors, or AI that would enhance safety and increase efficiency. Morons.
Lol whatever you say dumbassYeah, who needs the next generation of battery chemistry, more efficient electric motors, or AI that would enhance safety and increase efficiency. Morons.
