You do not have a right to carry your gun in to my house. I was amazed at the reaction I received when I asked a family member to please not bring the gun with them in to my house. I do not own a gun (well I guess technically I do, but it is kept at my Dad's house). I do not want guns in my house. I ask them very politely not to carry their gun in to my house. I get a 10 minute rant about how it is their right to carry a gun. I agree that it is your right to carry a gun and it is my right not to allow you in to my house when you are carry that gun. Followed by constant berating about it for the next three hours including when they are unwrapping the gift I bought them for Christmas.

Well your family member is a douche bag then. I would respect the wishes of anyone who's house I'm about to enter. That and I don't carry my gun with me everywhere I go. It stays in the truck.

Anyone that would take issue with your request shouldn't get a second invite.

It sounds typical of lots of gun nuts.

Why is it so important for some people to carry a gun? What is the thought process? Did he say? Was it the same arguments that are on this board, or something else?

Yeah, that person was being a total doosher. They'd not be invited back if it were me.

I carry and if someone asked me not to carry into their home I would either not go in the home or put the gun in the car. If it was a family Christmas party I would just put the gun in the car no problems. Sounds like the person has the personality of sys where he thinks his beliefs are all that matters. Those people are odd to say the least.

What a douchebag. Did you ask him why in the world he would think his "right" to carry trumped your right to deny as a property owner? Sadly, this is a pretty typical thought process by many that are so passionate about it. I do keep a gun in the car when I travel and I have always asked family if it is okay if I keep it unloaded and locked up in my bag while visiting. I'll even leave the rounds in the car. We here in Murica have a real problem understanding the what, why, and how of "rights."
