This thread on the Corral piqued my interest.

https://oklahomastate.forums.rivals.com/threads/rip-sen-john-mccain.74633/

My opinion is clearly stated in that thread.

The folks that hang around this board are a little more informed on politics.

Where do you see Trump on a purely political spectrum? Yes I know he's unconventional and is an outsider in the sense that he's not an establishment pol.

I'm interested in your thoughts purely on his political positions. Conservative? Moderate? Liberal?

Where does he fall in your opinion? (No further comments from me in this thread. I'm just interested in your thoughts.)

Obviously socially liberal and fiscally conservative if you bill it down to labels.

There is plenty to criticize him for but the idea he’s a racist White nationalist who hates Mexicans women blacks and dogs is a very recent work of fiction.

The guy from the Apprentice was a beloved celebrity liberal from New York. Now he’s Hitler? I don’t think so.

Fiscally conservative? No way

Since he is so morally bankrupt, I dont think he can be placed anywhere on the social side of things. Actually I would say that he is a social panderer. Especially on abortion and religous issues.

Who assumes that level of power that isn't morally bankrupt?

Nobody you've voted for.

He's a mix...and arguably brings together many of the better parts of ideological splits on many specific issues.

It's actually a very good question @AC2017

Edit:
I'm trying to punch holes in this:
Culturally conservative with libertarian leanings.
Fiscal
Tax - Conservative
Spend - Status quo for both parties
Tariffs - Populist/pragmatist
Foreign affairs - Pragmatist who wishes to avoid war but influence the "bad" folks where practical. Doesn't apologize for seeking to do well by the U.S. but also respects others in his belief that a "good deal" benefits both/all parties.

In the libertarian leanings is the acknowledgment of personal choice (sexual orientation and marriage) and the evolution of what society can handle meshed with what is practical governance (states rights on marijuana and a big push for criminal and prison reform).

Wants the institutions of government (police, fbi, IRS, etc.) to hold themselves to a high standard and be beacons of light or purity and be single-minded in their desire to fulfill their roles as servicers of the U.S. people. Pragmatically understands that his desires for them to be that way and how people naturally are...are at odds.

Is extremely dutiful.
Is extremely loyal.

Ultimately wants life to be like you see it in the old movies like Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Story.

The standard nomenclature of liberal/conservative does not satisfy. If you use that chart: liberal on the left, consevative on the right, he is all over the place depending on a particular issue.

I view politics from a different perspective. Place pure totalitarianism on the left and pure anarchism on the right. Judge a politician (or anybody really) by the degree to which he advocates government intrusion into a society.

Trump is a nationalist and a protectionist. Both terms put him fairly far on the left side of the scale. He disagrees with liberals on many things, but he agrees with them on the premise that government should be used to direct society, not the other way around.

He’s a big government nationalist. Economically he’s a protectionist. He sees trade as a weapon to be used between governments, not as an opportunity for countries to peacefully interact. He’s a nationalist and a protectionist in a world that has been trying become global.

Hmm. Trump's position on the political spectrum? Did you have any particular day in mind? Morning or afternoon?

He's the dictator of the Trump Family Business, and that's about it. He's for anything that puts money in his pocket. He's against anything that doesn't.

It's difficult to nail down the "politics" of a person who still apparently can't name the three branches of government, much less the powers of each.

To me, it depends upon how you look at "fiscally conservative". He is very much for cutting government intrusion into business and low taxes. In terms of debt, he seems to just be treating the gov'ts balance sheet the way he would his own business in that debt is okay if you can bring in more per month than what has to go out each month and make some money with the portion coming in.

Except the US Government isn’t really going to be able to declare bankruptcy and reorganize without paying the debt like he has done with his companies....when it doesn’t work out.

Yep.

It seems like everyone in congress and every president in modern history has been content to just talk about responsibility and then turn and kick the can down the road for a future politician to have to deal with when we can finally spend no more and social programs and the military have to start taking big cuts.
