I was taking my trash can from the curb back to it's post and this guy was laying in wait.

I think Thor has it right. That thing looks identical to a diamond back water snake. Here is a pic of one online. Thank you for your help guys.

I wasn't able to keep decent resolution when I enlarged it. I'd guess hungry (skinny) bull snake. What we call rat snakes around here are black.

This water (in Oklahoma) has got snakes and everything else on the move. Last summer was the first in many years I didn't kill at least one rattler. Shot two yesterday. Male and a female, both more than three feet, 10 buttons on each rattle.

One in a storage garage and the other 20 feet from the front porch. It was dark in the garage and I almost put my hand on him laying on top of a stack of lumber about 4 feet high. Sent wife for a pistol while I kept an eye on him. Told her I'd never be able to go back in knowing there was three-foot rattlesnake in there somewhere.

Got back to the house and my wife just about stepped right in the middle of one coiled up and rattling. Goofy dogs had been messing with it and got it riled up and then ran away when my wife showed up, leaving her to fend for herself. I was getting ready to go back and photo the first one when my wife started hollering about the second.

Grandsons, 6 and 4, live across the road. They came over and we had a good snake/bad snake lesson. Their mom showed them a bunch of snakes on youtube and they just couldn't get enough. They wanted more, more, more. Crazy how little kids want to know everything, then we send them to school and ruin their educations.

Snake is in bottom left of house pic. I've been cutting down some really big cedar trees around the place. Now I've got the willies. Dragging a chainsaw under those things with limbs all the way to the ground, hmmm, I may have to wait for snowfall now.

Good call on the water snake. I don't think I ever saw one. We didn't have snakes OR water where I grew up in West Texas. Now, here at Stillwater, with snakes AND water. I live in a nightmare.

I haven't had to kill any rattlesnakes yet this year. I did find a baby grey racer in the house. Then also caught and released a baby hog nosed snake and a garter snake. I hate rattlesnakes with a passion and I'm glad we don't have to deal with moccasins or copperheads out here. I'm not fond of snakes in general to be honest. Maybe I should consider a move to Ireland or an altitude above 6,000 feet.

We keep finding the little bastards in our house. Our chiweenie finds them and freaks out, then I have to catch and release them usually since they have been little grass snakes. But yeesh....I have seen a LOT more lately. I have some little .22 ammo I could use on them here in the neighborhood. But I don't kill the little grass snakes since they don't do much but nip your toes while you sleep....heehee

Moccasins are the worst. We have plenty of them here in Green Country and they are aggressive.
