I've complained about the media not being able to process sarcasm, hyperbole, irony or anything tongue-in-cheek. I thought it was agenda-based against Trump. Then this week, Ben Rothlesberger makes a clearly tongue-in-cheek comment about "maybe I just don't have it any more", and it becomes the banner headline on ESPN and Fox News and a question in the next 3 days worth of press conferences. When did the media lose any and all ability to comprehend anything but the most literal interpretation of statements.

When they realized the National Enquirer will probably be the last newspaper standing because sensationalism sells. They did it with Ivanka Trump's comments about being the first lady, turned it into something much greater than it was. Our country is ripe for the picking because there are so many idiots out there, we just keep dumbing ourselves down daily.

I kind of agree. And then once someone is labeled as interesting or funny they go completely overboard, like with Mike Leach. I like him too, but now EVERYTHING he says is a special pearl.

I think it is the internet + 24 hour news cycle. It is so critical to be first, they don’t have time to see if it was real, sarcasm, etc.
