West World season 2

I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one.

I can’t remember...did Bernard”s young female assistant die, or just get snatched? Stubbs reappeared, so I figured she might also.

Thought it was great. I'm curious how Bernard ended up on the beach or wherever he was when found. Always curious to see what Ed Harris is up too. Now there are some things I don't quite remember from Season 1 with regards to Bernard but I can go back and watch the last few to refresh my memory.

I thought it was good and that it set up some pretty interesting story lines.

I think Bernard's assistant is going to make a return. They didn't actually show her die on camera last season and I remember thinking at the time that it was purposeful.

Makes sense. They showed her in the "previously on WW", so I thought that was a good indication that she would be back.

So the multi-timeline story telling continues. It is just that Benard is in two story lines that are 10 days apart? Any others?

Do you think the man in the black hat is just a straight continuation from last season?

I do think man in black is a straight continuation. Not sure about Bernard. Maybe there are two Bernards.

Episode 2 may have been worse than Episode 1. Just really bad storytelling.

Remember Bernard is also Arnold. When he was talking to Delores in tonight's opening scene that is Arnold just like last season. In episode one he did appear to have two timelines. First just after last season when they are trying to get back to safety and concurrently sometime later when he is with a recovery team.

I liked it. They are going back and feeling in the prequel storyline with Jimmi Simpson. You see him taking control of the family business from his father in law and how he became the man in black. They do try to get a little too cute with they multiple storylines. Its definitely a niche show not for everyone.

Ummm, episode 3 wasn't much better.

I liked the safari story line. At least it was new. Glad they reintroduced snake tattoo woman. Other than that, meh.

But I'm pretty done with the Dolores takeover story line. And maybe it is the Oklahoman in me but I really hate the savage Indian story line.

If you're done with the Dolores storyline you are pretty much done with the show. Dolores gaining self consciousness is the basis premise the whole show is built on. As for the Savage Indian story line its as much of the mythology of the old west as the Cowboy. The whole virtual reality world isn't built on history or reality its built on the fantasy of the targeted customer.

Liked the glimpse of safari world. We also know Samurai world and Roman World are out there.

I mean, the company guys use the one battle tactic that gives the hosts shooting 19th century firearms a chance to beat them? Come on man.

That whole scene was just stupid. Why sacrifice the others and then make sure they are all dead? Delores is just off the rails with no real direction.

Have to agree that was pretty weak. The security team seams pretty clueless. You have to wonder if they are robots too.

Further rant on Delores.

So, she finally becomes sentient. She's appalled that the guests would use the park hosts for their own means of entertainment. So what's the first thing she does? Starts using the park's hosts as cannon fodder - just like the human guests she was disgusted by. She keeps saying that some don't deserve to make it. Why? Because their makers programmed in a way she doesn't like? That's just stupid.

Her entire story line is just horrible writing.

Watched episode 1 and 2 last night, haven't watched 3 so I skipped the last couple of comments above. I really liked both episodes.

I think there are 2 current day timelines. "Continuation", which has Mave, Delores, MIB, and Bernard + executive lady, and 2 weeks later which has Bernard waking up on the beach. I had the Bernard timelines backwards at first due to the champagne glass, but that was meant to throw us off.

I liked the twist that the entire point of the park isn't entertainment, but as a giant marketing research mechanism. That resolved a lot of earlier plot questions. So were the early glich-out of Abernathy and some other hosts just ways to get them to a special reasearch/decommission area so they could be loaded with the data and shipped out? Figured getting that data out was the point of the built in com devices though.

Also, are Mave and Delores truely "awake" or just self aware? We saw last season that mave's wake up and rebellion was simply instructions from Ford, and Delores's shooting of him was obviously instructed. I don't know that either is truly sentient yet. They are just on a mission from Ford to destroy the park, and in the process possibly become alive and escape and?

Wait until you get caught up. It gets even more convoluted. If I were to answer your questions (the ones I think I can), it would spoil things you haven't seen yet.

Ok I'm caught up.

I don't think Dolores and Maeve have the same view of themselves. Maeve sees the other robots as her equal, Dolores sees them as something less, just to be used. She seems to have no real interest in waking them up, whereas Maeve has. I'm still not convinced either one is operating 100% on their own decisions.

So they were trying to smuggle out Delos' consciousness. It was in Abernathy clear back when he blinked out looking at the picture of Delos's daughter. So did Bernard print out Ford's consciousness?

Wtf are the Indians? Not hosts, they were more like holograms.

The security team are a bunch of dumbasses. Their idiotic attempt to take over the fort as the only issue I've really had so far this season.

The host come in all shapes and sizes needed to complete the story. Some of them such as Delores are obviously given more advance narratives to play a greater role. Some are just bartenders, clerks etc. who are basically background characters. In order to have the old west narrative you need some kind of danger to play out the Cowboy and Indian fantasy that has to be a huge part of the guest desires. The Indians probably aren't programed to do much more then raid and be killed by the guest. Doubt many of them have been given much of a background narrative.

Good catch on Delos, its possible Ford download his own consciousness before starting the final act. I also wonder if Bernard may be more then just a recreation of Arnold. I wonder if Bernard was the prototype for the conscience hosts. Could Arnold have left his consciousness behind to be downloaded into Bernard with or without Fords knowledge? Could William have done it?

Throughout the series quite a few of the security team, workers and guest act like complete morons. Maybe in the future with technology having risen to such a point that those from powerful and wealthy families are pretty bright but the rest are dumb asses.

My point on the Indians was that they simply disappeared after holding the knife to the security guys neck. I'll have to go back and look but have any of them actually hurt any of the guest?

I don't know who the second consciousness belongs to. My guess would be Ford or Arnold as you say. I've been wondering, like you, for a while now if Bernard doesn't have some of Arnold's Consciousness built into him.

I just went back and watched a couple clips from episode 1 and 2 from season 1, Ford's interviewing of Abernathy is pretty interesting in retrospect.

I don't think the Indians are holograms. They are just sneaky ninjas when they want to be. That was the only time we saw them seem to disappear into thin air, and I think it was meant to show that they, similar to historical narrative of Native Americans, can move silently and sneakily when they want to.

Probably true, but it did seem like they vanished. Also, have they actually hurt a human yet? I need to rewatch those interactions. They let all of those go that were captured and tried to separate the annoying script writer from Maeve and crew. Seemingly to hurt him, but maybe to rescue him?
