Politicians promise lots of thing and rarely do any.

Several previous administrations promised to:

Move the US Embassy to Jerusalem.
Have open dialog with NKor rather than placate them with billion$.

Rightly or wrongly, this president is doing things.

"I know I advocated killing innocent black kids and I've defended white supremacists and the most awful racists in the country adore me, but I pardoned a guy that's been dead for decades, so vote for me." That probably seems smart to his base, but i'm not sure it'll help with the black vote.
