If the facts were on his side, and the Leftists could reasonably be believed to do what they did, then it certainly was a trap.
In the end, you had to imagine that the Lefts bottled bitter emotions had to run their course, and every lever of "denial" would be pulled while that course was run.
Where's that Grieving Cycle chart when you need it? I think today probably is the tipping point in moving the bulk of the masses from Anger/Denial to Bargaining/Depression with some early acceptors already advancing to Acceptance.
I would like to think they'd move to acceptance, but some have already been so brainwashed he's the boogey man they'll just latch on to the next no substance character assasination piece.

The attempt to determine how much of his behavior is strategic and how much is a random product of a strange dude is fascinating to me.
