It probably could work if we would cease providing benefits to illegal immigrants. I certainly understand and agree it is more humane to provide benefits, but it is extremely costly.
What do you think changed then? I think you are not realizing all the benefits paid by tax payers that illegal immigrants consume.

ICE creation has nothing to do with benefits. 2002 just consolidated agencies under Homeland Security.
I remember before 2002 the crisis due to all the illegal aliens and the benefits they were getting.
It has not and is not a new issue. Just an issue that is growing. Shoot, just look at Oklahoma public schools and the percentage increase in illegal immigrant students the last 15 years.

USCIS and CBP still exist. Abolishing ICE does not eliminate the functions INS performed prior to 2002.

I was referring to cable's reference that we would tax people making over 200K to pay for the open borders policy with a statement that it would take a significantly larger tax base, with which you replied with the high quality, one word statement: "wrong". But I noticed that you seemed to have changed your track in that regard since I provided my evidence of the 56% tax rate @ 75K income.
Maybe they would if they could, but they can't. Not because of any border protection, but because there aren't tens of millions of jobs for them to have. You may not believe this, but the overwhelming majority of the low skilled immigrants that come here from south of our border are here for the work. Most of them don't even know about the "welfare" that is available for them until they get here. Many of them are very poorly educated, don't speak English. Some of them can't read. They come here because it is a land of opportunity for them to better their circumstances. I work beside them every day. They are the hardest working, least complaining, generally happy people you could know.
