No doubt. What I like best about DG is that while he's a brilliant writer, a great musician/singer and awesome frontman, he's also the guy in the neighborhood who's your first call if you're having a barbecue.
I've been keeping an eye on rock and roll and it's stars since Elvis and the Beatles. I can't remember a more humble and down-to-earth superstar. I love the guy.
The Foos' HBO series earlier this year was brilliant and pretty much the brainchild of Dave Grohl.

Most people would've called it a day after being Nirvana's drummer. Can't remember a second career so successful since Linda Ronstadt's backing band gave it a go at doing their own thing.
I actually used to see him around the neighborhood when I lived in No.VA/DC area. He had a studio in the area (I think it was in his mom's house, or next door). He was in line waiting for his luggage at Dulles one time and he shot the shit with my female roommate and myself at the carousel for the 5 minutes or so before the luggage started dropping. He said he was in town to do an new album (Foo Fighters) and wanted it to have a "DC" vibe.

That's the reason I think he has been so transcendent and successful. Obviously the FF make great music, but Grohl's earnest "regular guy" vibe makes him very likable, respectable and relatable. Lots of bands make good music. It's the bands who fans connect with that really go to the next level, and Dave is either brilliant about that or he's just the exact right personality. Maybe both.
This whole broken leg thing has cemented his position in rock star legend. A full break AND probably more painfully, a dislocated ankle. And the dude didn't show any pain, joked with the crowd and finished the show - and then refused to cancel any more shows than the time it took to make him a killer guitar throne with "lasers and shit"
Not many cats would've done that. Or could've.
Plus, both Nirvana and FF have had a very garage band kind of feel to them. The first maybe accidentally, and the second is very clearly intentional.

Saw a cool quote attributed to him the other day. Don't know a date on it. Something along the lines of:
