VDH: Here's What's Really Driving Trump's Tariffs Threat

A little common sense for those who lack it.
I have long respected VDH. This article, however, lays out the NeoCon perspective with perfect clarity. And although it provides little more than sound-bite snippets in defense of authoritarianism via tariffs, the arguments he makes have been eviscerated repeatedly by the free market economists he belittles. I have shared multiple links over the last few weeks, each of which counters the arguments he presents in this article. You would know that, and would have learned something in the process, in you had bothered to read any of them.

You've shared numerous links with opinions of those with establishment trade views, none of which countered anything.

Shocking: economists make economic arguments explaining the economic errors politicians make when they use economic ignorance to apply authoritarian political measures.

Yet the results of Trump's tariffs threats are yielding the opposite results the establishment trade economist predict.

The days of the US tax payers unfairly supporting foreign economies is coming to an end.

There are no results of his tariffs.

In your own words please explain how foreign tariffs on imports from America is an example of how US taxpayers support foreign economies. Can you do that?

Sure there are Dan you just can't admit it. Mexico sending 10K troops to help secure our border and the EU lowering it's own tariffs are just two direct positive and immediate examples of Trump's tariff threat.
What tariff was implemented, Bearcat? Please explain the economic impact of the tariff you think was implemented. Actual economists make economic arguments, not political ones. You seem incapable of recognizing the difference. Threatening a tariff is political. Results of tariffs that are implemented are economic. What tariff was implemented?

Same way US tariffs provide revenue to the US government. While you think tariffs are only paid by consumers that is not totally accurate.
As we see with Trump threatening tariffs on countries that have long imposed tariffs on our goods, they are lowering their tariffs in response. Lower tariffs equal less government revenue.

Reading comprehension Dan. Trump (threatened) tariffs, key word, threatened. It's OK I don't expect you to admit you are wrong, you can't allow yourself to admit you are ever wrong. Oh and tariffs are absolutely political regardless of what you claim.

Interesting that you suddenly introduce the word “threaten” when pressed to explain how Trump’s tariffs have worked to perfection. Tariffs are authoritarian political acts with very real economic results. Economists to which I link explain the economic results of the political act. You seem to be incapable of comprehending something that should be easy to understand.

Addendum: what you should have been saying all along is Trump’s *threats* worked to perfection, which would have been accurate. But unimposed tariffs can neither work nor not work. And beware: authoritarianism in every form, including threats, work until they quit working, and when they quit working disaster is right around the corner. It’s really heady for you right now with your political lord and savior enjoying so much winning, but karma can be a bitch, so you might want to practice a little humility in advance.

The headline said it. VDH said it. This is the first time you have said it.
It actually isn't, Dodge. It's a point he's made repeatedly while you were pissing down your own legs.

BTW, you never told us how much more a cup of Colombian coffee was going to cost us if Trump enacted that tariff. You scurried away from that thread as soon as facts entered it.
