Fix just got a tech fall over the former World Cadet Champ from Iran.
Got a slick pass by then a gut wrench to lead 4-0
Iranian then got three points for a takedown on the edge as well as a push out.
The Iranian consistently got in on an underhook and was dominating the action.
Fix got a slick takedown then a series of 3 gut wrenches.
Then Fix got one more takedown for the tech fall.

Mitch McKee won 9-5 over a very slick Iranian. Hall wins 8-6 superior mat wrestling and counters. Zahid Valencia loses 10-1 to a very big and muscular Goleij. J'den Cox scores what is termed an upset win over Mostafa Joukar fromIran 10-5 and Jordan Burroughs closes it out with a 11-2 win over the Iranian.

BTW Fix weighed in today at 137# but had on his clothes and shoes. He probably weighed about 132# so he has some serious weight cutting Friday and Saturday to get down to 121 by his matches Sunday.

Mr. Earl and I are leaving in about three hours to go to the Jr. World freestyle trials in Irving Saturday and Sunday.
Hope to see some champions with Oklahoma connections.

Winners today to make the world team were Spencer Lee, Alec Pantaleo, Kollin Moore, and Jordan Wood.

Nolf techs smith

I wonder if Nolf follows IMar up to 165. He looks like a big 157 and doubt he there for 4 years. Smith is average to small for 157 or at least appeared to be so this past season.

PSU is obviously stock piling talent but could run into what we just went through with Bless and Chance. Lot of talent all bunched up at similar weights and age.

He really has to stay at 157, Joseph missed 157 twice last year. He has outgrown that weight. Plus I don't think it is tough for Nolf to make 157

This. Word is that Nolf isn't growing anymore and has no problem making 157. There has been talk in the past that maybe Nolf moves up in 2017 when he's a junior, but that may have been premature. He may be a large 157 for his career.

Too bad Fix can't slide into 125 for us next season.

I thought Piccinini looked great. Gomez beat him as he knew freestyle better. My gut feeling is Pic is going to be a mid AA this year. Daton Fix is just on another planet at this time. My feeling was if they were wrestling freestyle it would have been Piccinini in the final match with Fix.

I have no idea where Penn State is going to wrestle all of the talent they have in the room between 157 and 174. I would suppose that Bo Nickel might move up to 184, but between Nolf, Joseph, Hall, and Nickal they are all very good.

Guys, there is a ton of talent between 165 and 184 coming into play next year. It is not as if Nolf and Joseph walked through the tournament. Logan Massa and Valencia were ahead of those two in the last few seconds and they came from behind. Valencia sustained an injury that just about stopped him from finishing the match. He was about 5 points ahead of Nolf.

OSUmatfan was a gracious host this weekend for Mr. Earl and I showing us a great restaurant and I owe him for a couple of free meals. Daton Fix was incredible and just dominated. However, Nick Piccinnini was very impressive losing only to Gomez by a point and most of those points were on freestyle moves by Gomez on shots by pic.Pic redeemed his loss to Teasdale in Vegas in Spades totally dominating the match and then took it to Assad. We will be very well represented next year at 125 and I agree Pic will AA. Gut feeling and maybe hope that Fix will commit to us but it is not a done deal according to all principals involved. We need him like we have not needed a recruit since Johny Hendricks.
Had a great time this weekend in Irving with the only downer being the site. The event was held in an exhibition hall with a very small set of bleachers set up. The fans ringed the mats and it was great viewing but you had to stand all day on a concrete floor and this old man is still paying the price. You could not even see the action from the bleachers and so no other options available. Someone said, and I concur, this is an example why wrestling does not grow. It is just not fan friendly. I will say we stood on the side of Mats 1 and 2 where all the action took place and if you were tough enough the view was great.

I agree about the facility. It was not very fan friendly.

Saw a taller older gentleman decked out in Cowboy gear on the edge of the mat. Reckon that was one of you guys?

That would be me. You did not mention how handsome and intelligent looking I was so I am hurt beyond all measure. OSUmatfan was next to me and he is about 6'4-5" or about 3 inches taller than me but of course not as good looking. Mr. Earl was also decked out in Cowboy colors and the silver hair gives him away.

This is the best iv ever seen Fix wrestle. He is good at folkstyle but he is better at freestyle. Looked to get to more of his offensive instead of just slowing a match down or scrambling his way out of everything. 74kg bracket was loaded as usual. Mark Hall is one tough SOB. He is slowly starting to develop this international style of wrestling. (Very square stance and tough ass hand fighter), I don't like it cuz I think it's a boring style compared to the USA style but he's one ours and he's good at so more power him. Finally, glad to see our girl Becka Leathers come away with a world team spot.

Would have added all that but it was too early for drinking ;)
