White House lawyer who advised against firing Comey. Here's a liberal website article. (Don't want to be accused of bias).

Purposely withheld junior resource research from the POTUS in regards to DJTs authority to fire Comey without cause. His supporters say he was trying to protect the POTUS from himself - believing firing Comey would (and arguably did) open a line of inquiry around obstruction of justice. Detractors believe DJT can make rational decisions on his own - despite evidence to the contrary.
How prevalent do you think this is in the White House?
I have no idea how prevalent is, but as a member of the White House Counsel’s office, he has an ethical duty to not withhold or shape his advice about what the law actually says or what the President’s authority IS under the law for fear of concern about what the President may do with that information.
He can ethically advise the President on what the law is with regards to his authority AND counsel him as to what he should do given the law. He can’t ethically alter his advise on what the law is or actually says in order to avoid the need to counsel him on what he should do in response.
