Interesting development in Afghanistan the gloves are off. I will never understand why this wasn't the policy of the two previous administrations. It makes to much sense I guess. Cutting off your enemies primary sources of income seems like a no-brainer but Obama didn't aggressively go after heroin production.

I suspect it was some kind of rules of engagement bullh!t where they didn't want to kill or piss off the civilian population who might be involved.

Taliban banned opium production in 2001. After 9/11 the Taliban became public enemy number one because they couldn't/woudln't prevent OBL from living in Afghanistan. For ten years after the invasion of Afghanistan the most powerful military power in history also couldn't keep OBL from living in Afghanistan. OBL was eventually found and killed near the Pakistan's military academy. Pakistan was not subsequently invaded.

It's true that the Taliban banned poppy cultivation in 2000. It's also pretty clear why. They were sitting on a surplus of product and knew that a "ban" would drive prices up, which it did. The Taliban were also smart enough to know that the ban would earn them monetary aid in the name of the poor starving poppy farmers. They even tried to leverage this position by warning that they would lift the ban if the US used military action against them. We did. They lifted the ban. They continue to fund themselves in part with drug money.

Ah! A new strategy in Afghanistan! I'm sure we'll "win" any day now!

Why are we there still? Boy you guys just can't get enough Asian wars.

Trump didn't get us in there, Obama didn't get us out.

So as long as we are we there we might as well let the Generals fight like hell and not like a big giant pussy like Obama, who had the war micro managed by a bunch of Ivy League communications majors working in the White House.

Set aside your draft-dodging, pussy, rich boy. Why are we there?

We're there because of idiot Bush 2.0, and we've stayed there because of the idiot Kenyan Donkey Herder.

But now it seems we're doing something other than fussing about who can use what restroom, so maybe we'll get to see whatever results our idiots in government are looking for.

It's really a shame that the other draft dodging pussy rich boy didn't take out OBL in the 90's.

I don't care why they banned it.

Then what was your point?
That they banned it effectively, and next thing you know they were being invaded for not keeping a standard that the regime that replaced them nor Pakistan was not held to. The motives of the Taliban really don't matter.

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.
