As some of you know, I had a Job opp with a competitor and I asked for advice on if I should stay or go.
Many of you gave great advice and some asked for an update when there was one.
Well basically, my year end review did not turn out like I thought it should have. I ended up getting a 3 out of 5. while this is not a bad review it is not what I deserved. The ONLY reason I got this was because by Director has a policy that 1st year managers cannot get more than a 3 on they first year end review.
This not only angered me, but basically he told me that no matter how hard I tried and how much work I did, I was not fighting for the same review as everyone else. this ended up costing me around $10K bonus and up to a 8% raise + a possible promo.
I still got a good bonus (the most I have ever received in my 6 years here, but I got a low raise. Most my peers thought I should have got the 5 (my boss can only hand out 1) because of the accomplishments (best year end metrics scores and most $ saved for the year).
I could have bitched and cried, but in the end, there is NOTHING I could have done. No argument could have been made to have my bonus restructured. I am just moving on and trying to see what I can accomplish this year.
My review was really good in terms of what my boss said about me, just not the score I thought I should have got, based on his guidelines.
