Someone do me a favor and make a list of undefeated P-5 teams over the last 10 years.
Now, make a list of undefeated P-5 teams that have not played in the final game of the season.
Unless I am mistaken, the first list will have only 1 or 2 teams in a given year, and the second list will not have a single team on it.
Now, with that in mind, just think about how difficult it is for a P-5 team to go through an entire season unscathed. This season, there can be no more than 3 undefeated P-5 teams (Big 12, ACC and BIG). Prior to the CFP, I could see a real possibility of an undefeated Big 12 team being left out this season, but now there are 4 spots instead of 2. They are not going to leave out an undefeated P-5 Champion.
