The Russians took some beatings early but have corrected their earlier mistakes. Reports have been that Ukraine is taking 200 casualties a day. The Russians have countered in the Kharkiv area, which is the area in which the US citizens were captured. Thier videos do not help Ukraine's plea for more help. The War in the South is Static. The area that gives me the most concern in the Severodonetsk area. The Russians have destroyed the only bridges out of town, and cut off all highways into the city. They have not fully encircled the city, but they don't have to. They have effectively surrounded the city with their current positions. It looks as if they are willing to run a protracted siege to get what they want. They don't want to repeat the mistakes of early in the war. The troops that stuck in this area, will not be able to the get out. The only way out is cross miles of farm land that is completely open. They would be vulnerable to artillery fire, and to me it looks like the Russians have set a trap. Stay in Severodonetcsk or flee across the killing fields. Not a good choice. The Ukrainians waited to long to pull out and instead decided they would stand and fight. Big mistake in my estimate. Another problem for Ukraine is that they have been given all of this great equipment but no one knows how to use it. They can't get it deployed because it would just be a target.
This is why NATO countries are telling their troops they may have to deploy. Russia is winning, and Ukraine cannot sustain the losses as well. The war is going badly for Ukraine right now. They are running low on supplies and have a portion of their army cut off. The counter offensives they attempted have yielded little to no results and the one area they had success in is now losing ground. The resilience of the Ukrainian soldier still seems to be holding but, how long can they keep this up?
