Was a great team win. Everyone contributed significantly to the win.
Kalib was dominant. TTU was intentionally fouling him alot and he was money from the FT line. He was great on D both on the ball and off the ball. There were a couple of times where a TTU dribbler would get past their defender, see Kalib in the paint, and then slow their dribble and pass it back out.
The lineup of AA, Lindy, Laurent, Cam, and Ice was where we changed the game. Ice had 3 consecutive possessions that made the difference. That lineup worked against TTU because they don't have a true center. We probably won't be able to use it against many other teams except in certain situations. It should work some against teams like KSU and ISU though.
Ice played a very good game. And he made a few jumpers!!!! We are obviously at our best when he plays well.
We shot 81.8% from the FT line as a team. That is a testament to good coaching and that being a priority in practice.
Cam did so well defensively on Ramsey, especially in critical situations. Cam looks like a different player when he is playing with a better lineup around him. He almost had a very quiet double double.
DZ with only 10 minutes is how he should be used. About 2 of those minutes were the last 2 minutes of the game for his FT shooting ability. I don't think he played in the 2nd half other than that.
Laurent played his best game as a Cowboy. We will need him to continue to play well. Replacing DZ for Laurent totally changes the game for us.
We were able to take advantage of TTU being a smaller team without a true post. We had 15 offensive rebounds and TTU had 8. We outrebounded TTU 37 to 22 overall.
The last 2 possessions were handled so beautifully. Up by 3 we let them get the ball just past half court and then fouled to keep them from getting a chance at a 3. Then on the final possession we put Kalib on the inbounder to make the inbound pass incredibly difficult. The inbounder had to throw the ball way up in the air which allowed Lindy to get in and tip the ball away.
Crazy talk: if we could somehow win 5 of our last 6 we would be at 18-13. If we could then win a game or two in the Big 12 tourney, we could actually get into the NCAA tournament. It's crazy to think that is still a possibility no matter how unrealistic. More likely we end up in the NIT. Postseason play will be good for the youngsters to get more practice.
