Trump's shutdown trap?

I hope this is the case. Government needs to see about a 50% reduction in workforce.

All of the stories on the news are about these poor employees not getting a paycheck. I’ve uet to see anything other than TSA that is actually effecting non government employees. I’m sure there are bits and pieces, but a large number of these employees could never show up again and only they would know it.

So in a few more days Trump could potentially execute his executive privilege and institute a RIF and effectively lay off scores of government employees? Holy crap. At the very least that would be one huge leverage tool in negotiations with Democrats.

Just guessing: IF Trump does actually do this and it sticks - he just locked up reelection.

EDIT: Adding chart of potential RIF departments

The government employees about to get RIF’d would shit enough bricks to build the wall.
Imagine what it would do to the real estate values in and around DC if a couple hundred thousand people lost their jobs and had to move or downsize.

Good. Amazon, a private company, can hire these government workers. Win for taxpayers and win for Amazon. Of course, among the reasons Amazon cited in choosing DC and NY was access to "highly skilled workers" produced by educational institutions in those areas needed for their business. I'm not sure laid-off government workers would meet that criteria.
