Trump said the tariffs would remain in place until the two countries clamp down on drugs, particularly fentanyl, and migrants crossing the border illegally.

Walton's could give two shits about fentanyl. Tariffs is what scares that family.
It should scare you, too. I was talking to one of my industry reps this morning, talking about Trump’s tariffs the first time around. Said cost of each shipment of their imports from China went from $2,000 to $30,000. Guess who wound up paying.

Buy American.
Why? What does that even mean? Does an American product have to be made with 100% American parts and each American part have to be made with 100% American components and each American component have to be made with 100% American subcomponents …. How about labor? Does it apply to all labor production and assembly, too? Do all the other countries get to do the same thing for their country? Should the concept of imports and exports just dissolve?

Don’t over think it.

What scares me is all the unvetted illegals and fentanyl pouring into the country. We've lost three kids of close friends to fentanyl and had a couple of friends thankfully escape with only minor injuries in car wrecks with drunk illegals. If Trump placing tariffs on Mexico gets them to help reduce both I'm all for it as you should be.

Neither of us should choose a boneheaded option like tariffs and trade wars as the cure for the fentanyl crisis. But I understand. You’re for it because it’s what Trump told you he wants, and you’ll accept and approve of anything he says he wants. You’d probably smile with pride as you watched him grab your wife or daughter by the pussy.

As the world's largest consumer economy, tariffs are an excellent tool for our President to provide the proper motivation to foreign leaders to cooperate with our desires without the normally diplomatic pussy footing around. Cooperate or not but the not has a penalty. While I'm sure that maybe a little strong for people like you who prefer to play nice while these foreign countries take advantage of our country, some of us are tired of getting screwed and demand the screwing stop immediately.

No big deal right Dan? Just another dead American at the hands of an illegal who shouldn't be here in the country.

Hell who cares if children are raped or sexually assaulted by illegals, Americans are murdered and illegals are dealing drugs to further destroy the country. As long as Dan has access to cheap goods all is good for him.

Has NOTHING to do with free trade.
Sure it does Dan. Under the Biden Administration the Mexican government has allowed and encouraged the Cartels free reign to facilitate illegal immigration. Politicians in Mexico are beholden to the Cartels much like our politicians are beholden to the wealthy élite in this country with the exception the Cartels are responsible for killing untold numbers of Americans each year. But all that is good with you as long as you have cheap goods.

Trump is playing a game of musical chairs, and you're lapping it up like a dog. You don't solve one crisis by creating a different one.

LMAO you are so entrenched in your opinions you can't see the forest for all the trees. Mexico will bend the knee and beg Trump for forgiveness, they already are and he's only had one phone call.
When the destruction you fear doesn't happen I have no doubt you will not admit your error.

Of course I will. Will you?

I've never had a problem admitting when I'm wrong. If you can't admit when you are wrong, you learn nothing.
What I predict is Mexico starts working to help secure the border with their military, the same way they did when Trump was in office before. I predict illegal numbers drop dramatically as does the drug trafficking. I would also suspect several Cartel leaders are taken down with the help of the Mexican government. I don't think the tariffs will be implemented but if they are it will not be for long. Tariffs would hurt Mexico far more than they would the USA and that is why they are effective.

End tariffs and the US Nationals who make the billion Rayovac double A and triple A batteries every year lose their jobs. Economics 101 is not a long suit for Hamas Dan.

Apparently Mexico's President has already said the caravans will stop. Amazing how easy it is to secure the border and save American lives, when you want to.

Libs let the economics of their politics rule their lives. They cry about how Trump's tariffs could raise the price of iPhone made in China, and cripple the economy. But US sending half a trillion to the Ukraine never gets their attention.

This is arguably the most intelligent thing you have posted on this board. You hit the nail on the head about Libs and economics. Regrettably MAGA economists seem to be as clueless as those that advise the Libs.

All that is well and good, but it doesn't need to happen at the expense of the businesses that make our economy the best in the world. As I said earlier, Trump is "solving" one problem while creating a new one.

Really want to twist the knife a bit more, especially for Mexico start taxing any remittance to Mexico at 25% also. That shitbag government only suvives because so many of it citizens receive USD subsidies from relatives working in the US. If you can prove your a US citizen then waive the remittance fee, otherwise as they say in Poland toughski shitski.

I think your industry rep did too much crack last night. There is no freakin way a container of goods increases that much with a 25% tariff. China has been lying and manipulating against everything they promised to do when entry to WTO was granted. Weakness and lack of resolve beget more weakness and lack of resolve.

My step daughter use to work in the import business out of Sao Paulo Brazil. When there was a chinese shipment that had any problems no matter what. If it couldn't be resolved by a quick fix or a bribe they just left the shipment on the boat. Basically abandoned the goods, so the only way there is an increase like you mention if it is nearly 100% based on extra shipping costs. During COVID when we had trouble procuring raw materials for our specialty paint and ultimately had to air freight material to foreign locations, the price didn't increase that much. For ocean freight it maybe tripled from around $2,000 - $3000 USD for a 40' container to $6,000 to $9000 USD and that 40' container was carrying coatings anywhere from $95,000 USD to $145,000 USD.

Time to kick China in the balls and help their economy crash which it might do without our help anyway. But they are lying, cheating thief's who's only claim to fame on national wealth is built on those three concepts and of course western countries rolling over and allowing them to lie, cheat and steal.

When can we start?

Really what problems will Trump's tariffs cause? You think if Trump tariffs goods 25% the cost of goods goes up 25%? What evidence do you have of this?

Lol

So we shouldn't trust that Trump knows economics. Nevermind that he's a billionaire and was the architect of one the best periods of economic growth in his first term.

And we should't trust that Larry Kudlow, one of his top economic advisors, knows economics. Nevermind that Kudlow was the architect of Reaganomics in the 80s, another period of massive economic growth for the nation.

And we shouldn't trust that Elon Musk, also an economic advisor to Trump, knows economics. Nevermind that hes the world's richest man.

We shouldn't listen to any of these people, but should instead trust that a liberal troll on an Okie State politics forum knows how tariffs will work for the nation's top economy. Of course.

If you’re referring to me you should know that I am a troll (you can’t imagine how much fun it it riling you up), but I’m further away from being a liberal than you or anyone else on this board. As for trusting Trump and Kudlow and Musk I think you should trust them with your own well being, but leave me out of it.
