Does the president get any credit for using his tough campaign rhetoric aimed at china as a bargaining chip to get the UN vote abstention and their weight in the North Korea situation?

Show me an actual outcome... then I can tell you if DJT deserves credit or blame for it.

We don't give participation trophies out any more Harry.

Sure....if they actually throw their weight behind him/us.

It's a little early to declare total victory on that though.

So trump has to solve the Syrian civil war and denuclearize North Korea for credit from you? If he was a half black liberal he would have two nobel peace prizes by now.
What is it that you want him to get credit for again? Describe an out come of some kind. This isn't 7th grade when you got your last t-ball trophy...

No declaration, just maybe an acknowledgement

I acknowledge that if China actually throws it's weight behind reining and eliminating the threat of NK, that will be a good win for Trump.

I guess I don't get what you're wanting. It seems you've already concluded that Trump in fact has China's weight behind his NK efforts. I'm not so sure. The jury is still out, and time will tell.

Participation trophy for getting china to what in effect is siding with the west at the United Nations on Syria?

We get it. You are a lickspittle and are holding Donald trump to a standard you would never hold your team to. It's sad but oh so obvious.

Didn't Russia veto the UN resolution on Syria that China abstained upon?

I don't view abstaining from a resolution you know will be vetoed by Russia strong evidence of putting your weight behind Trump on NK. As I said, time will tell.

A vote at the UN is the big win? Seriously?

Abstaining from voting on a resolution you know will be vetoed by Russia isn't exactly "siding with the west."

Just saying....

I want someone to say wow all that China tough talk about currency manipulation and trade deficits was a great starting point for negotiating bigger issues. I have concluded china is heavily involved in negotiating North Korea. They have also denied their shipments of coal which is a substantial move.

I expect this from David and sys but jd you are supposed to be the fair minded one. These changes are great starts to the shit show trump inherited.

I am fair minded. It think I've established that.

Maybe the fact that I'm not as ready to call it a huge victory or a "great start" at this early point should lead you to question your level of glee and admiration rather than try to lump me in with David and Sys. You think it's a great start and a total victory. David and Sys may think it's a nothingbiscuit. It think it's somewhere in between.

China exchanges an abstention of a resolution they know will be vetoed in exchange for not being designated as a currency manipulator by the US. It seems to me, at least with regards to that discrete transaction, China got more than they gave.

It's a good start. The jury is still out and time will tell whether it is a "great" start.

You are overstating my position.

Glee? Total victory?

"It's a good start." That's all I was looking for. The David/sys faction could never muster that.

I don't think I was overstating your position.

Of course it is. That was a huge signal.

Sure sounds like glee and a proclamation of a total victory to me.

But yes, I have no problem stating it is a positive development. I'm just not ready to declare it as such a bigly great development as you seem to want me to.

I guess I define glee differently. Total victory though you are obviously way off on that one. Total victory is three Supreme Court justices, a secure southern border, unified Korea, neutered Russia or peace in the Middle East between the sunnis and the Shias.

Getting china to do things in the first hundred days that twenty years of us presidents couldn't do to me is impressive and warrants a slap on the back. You know I'm no cheerleader like that magapoke.

Is this the first time your experiencing this "want"? No one is responsible for you making a winning argument except you. Try harder next time.

And you know I'm fair minded and no Sys or David and yet you went there because I don't see this as being as impressive as you do. That's kind of a cheerleader move. Just saying....

China got a shit ton of relief on the currency manipulation thing for just abstaining on a resolution doomed to veto from the very beginning. I don't see that as a huge signal or victory, all that impressive, or warranting a slap on the back. I see it as a good sign and good start. Time will tell whether it was great or ultimately not as good as it first appears to me or you.

The coal thing looks like an appeasement move, as it's spring time and how much coal do they need at this time of year compared if it was say, October and it was starting to get cold. I wouldn't be surprised if shipments restart in the fall whether there is any movement in the future or not.

Is it possible Trump declined to call China "currency manipulators" is because he learned everything he'd been saying about China was wrong?

Your spandex bicycle shorts need to try harder
Ha - had this conversation Saturday after a Lacrosse double header. Like you, my son expects something he hasn't earned. My advice to him: work hard and show in practice that you can shoot and score and THEN you can ask for more ball time.

Harry, if you apply yourself you can be good at message board. I believe in you.

I'm a Trump skeptic. I will say that, over the last 2 weeks, I no longer feel that he is totally in over his head. As JD suggested, the possibility is still there that he drowns, or is able to master the butterfly stroke. We will have to wait longer to see how things shake out.

But, I will agree with you that he has done some positive things recently.

WTH is he supposed to get credit for right now? They just tried to launch another missile last weekend. Have I missed North Korea slowing down their nuclear missile program?

I'll be the first to say if Biff can de-nuclearize NK by ratcheting up the pressure it's a great win for him and he reeeeally needs one.
