Trump backs off raising gun age

Federal law is already 21 for handguns. It hasn’t been shot down yet. Not sure that the courts would shoot down changing rifles to 21 as well.
Our staggered system of when you become an adult would make the legal case interesting IMO. I think raising the age is not what we need to be focusing on anyway.

Thanks JD, shows how big of a rock I’ve been living under, had no idea had to be 21 to buy a handgun.

That’s a whole different issue...whether we should be focusing on age.

I was merely speaking to a court challenge and its odds of success. It wouldn’t make an interesting case to me at all. The question of whether the state can make those kind of decisions is pretty well established. Ages of consent vs. age to vote vs. age to purchase a handgun vs. age to marry (with or without parental permission) vs. age to purchase a rifle etc. are routinely different. The question of when you “become an adult” is more a cultural one than one with legal implications or definitions.
