Trudeau Declares National Emergency Allowing Government To Override Civil Rights

Lol…over truckers protests. How pathetic.
"It's been extremely disruptive to local residents," he said, adding that there have been videos of demonstrators handcuffing apartment buildings so residents can't come out and people have been caught with weapons.”

If someone was directly impeding your everyday life and your job/livelihood, you’d ask the same thing of our government lol

Just wait till the truckers say FU and quit delivering all together for a couple weeks as a show of solidarity. Then you'll really see "disruptive to local residents".

Don’t bite your nose to spite your face means nothing to these dumbasses

So, contrast the trucks with the George Floyd protests using the above logic.

CHOP would be a good place to start.

If they’re infringing upon the daily lives/livelihoods of others, yes absolutely.
So next time an Occupy Wall Street, CHOP zone protest, or other multi-day, highly disruptive protest is enacted, you agree that the Republican president should be sending the national guard to disperse them. I don't think your leftist brethren on this board had the same opinion on Trump using the national guard in Portland or in regards to the protests in Minnesota, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt as you may have been on one of your hiatuses at that time.

That’s different

Here's my question.

I didn't agree with the tactics of Occupy Wall Street. What's different about the Canadian truckers protest now and why shouldn't I have the same stance here?

The tactics seem very much the same. Is it simply the cause and the ends justify the means; or, is there something fundamentally different in today's tactics?

There is a difference. The country needs truck drivers or it shuts down. The country isn't harmed when the protest is just a bunch of kids sleeping in tents making tik tok videos.

Edit: in fact, the parents probably enjoyed getting them out of their basements for a few days.

Not sure that answered my question. In fact I think your statement would further justify Trudeau's escalated response.

I mean, sitting in at all white food counters seems okay in retrospect. Again a similar tactic. Is it just the cause that justifies the tactics?

I’d say I’m with you on both as well.

That said, I also don’t support going George Orwell on either.

Of course the cause, and the political affiliation of said cause, justifies the difference in response. Its all part of the lib motto: #thatsdifferent

I do like the sit-in analogy. Per toons, apparantly arresting and manhandling those protestors in the 50s and 60s was the appropriate action.

I agree. There's a middle ground to be reached here but the government is now entrenched and have been painted into a corner. Use force on non-violent protestors who are in fact breaking the law? Or, capitulate and lose face? There's not much room for compromise now. There was a few weeks ago.

This is a difficult one for me. I can see both sides and understand their logic. What I don't sympathize with is the government's unwillingness to moderate their stances. It has become about power and not what's right for the citizenry. In that regard, I lean towards the truckers.

Which they have nobody to blame but themselves for.

I’d suggest that the lose of face associated with simply removing the draconian edicts that sparked the protest (not violent riots from what I’ve seen) in the first place would be a net positive for society as a whole.

This. All Trudeau had to do was send a delegate to meet with them. At least have a parley. Instead, he attacked them mercilessly with the full throat of the liberal media. He literally called them Nazis, then he goes and signs an emergency order that looks amazingly like the Enabling Act of 1933.

As stated before- truckers quit we are through as we know it. Bureaucrats quit we are better overnight by 100 fold.
No single profession could go away over night and be more disruptive. Teachers all strike, and kids lose their daycare, but life goes on. Doctors and nurses strike, then those who are sick are in trouble but for most, life will persist. If truckers go away, we return to localized economies that we're not designed for and big cities will see looting and rioting due to a lack of goods.

Think possibly the point missed is not necessarily the means, but the justification. The OWS was started by MIcah White (ironically a Canadian) who was a senior editor for "Adbusters" an anit-consumetist rag, that drew their inspiration from the protests in Egypt (Tahir Square maybe???). You know people fighting for basic freedoms vs all the old socialist canards; greed, economic equality, blah blah blah. They also left the park a trash strewn shithole. Many of the protesters were being paid to stand up for the cause so hardly full of conviction.

The truckers are fighting for their livelihood against the government interference that has interfered with their ability to do so. They have an amazing public groundswell of support (nothing like OWS) and are serving themselves up for the liberal scum media to dox them and to even be arrested.

One protest was total nonsense wanting completely unicorn outcomes and the other is for peoples livelihood with hug swaths of public support.

Agree with the above that Trudeau and his left falling over government could have negotiated a far better outcome, but nope they are so wedded to their dogma and proving they are above reproach that they screwed the pooch here. Never underestimate the potential actions of people trying to save/rehabilitate their reputations. The bootlicking media, the scum liberal politicians who would rather have the whole populace be like baby birds at the edge of the nest waiting on handouts, do not want anything resembling free and unencumbered trade with free thinking patriots having a voice.

Remember D. Horowitz's quote "Inside every liberal is a totalitarian screaming to get out."

Authoritarians do not like having their actions questioned and will lash out to punish anyone that does. Glad the leftists have finally outed themselves for what they truly are.

Think I posted the video of how utterly deep trudope and Canada are wed to these shots- he is literally where he made his bed to keep pushing them- made a deal with the devil. Had already ordered millions and millions of
The boosters coming up in the next 3 years so every citizen would average like 4-6 Shots- Only problem is more and more are telling him to pound sand-

He's in a real pickle Dick
