Although I often get called out for wearing orange colored glasses, I correctly pointed out back in July that our toughest game up until Baylor would be W Va. Since that game went OT, perhaps I was right. I also pointed to TCU's losses in the back 7 of their defense as their achilles heel. Patterson has done a remarkable job in covering that weakness but the real truth is that they had not played anyone who could really expose that weakness until yesterday.
Going forward, I vehemently disagreed with those who were chalking up a Baylor win simply due to Baylor's past history of puking when they come to Stillwater. Baylor will be a much tougher test in 2 weeks and I expect that game to be a nail biter. Don't let the results of this week's uo/Baylor game fool you(regardless of who wins). Baylor runs the ball much better than TCU and the Baylor defense will offer more resistance than the Frogs. uo actually has a good chance to hang with Baylor even in Waco because of their ability to run the ball. However, I am not at all sold on the uo defense as the "guru's" are at ESPN. uo has looked good defensively the last few weeks because they have not played a QB who can throw the ball. Some may point to TT but that is not a fair test. The TT QB can look really good as long as his team is in the game but against teams that also has an offense, his defense lets TT get so far behind so fast that Mahomes starts to press.
Baylor will light up that sooner secondary. The questions is can uo then answer the bell with their own offensive drive? Right now I am looking for this one to be close until late 3rd quarter or so before Baylor pulls away.
Of course, Bedlam is always tough and if we happen to be in position to make the CFP(whether uo has a chance or not), there will be a TON of pressure in that game. I actually think big game bob is now better in a spoiler roll than any where else. I can not imagine what the atmosphere in BPS would be if we were 11-0 going into that game. Even if uo were to lose to both TCU and Baylor(a real possibility), that game would be tremendously tough to win.
I do not want to discredit the Iowa St game. Much like K St, they will be fundamentally sound and will be a tough out on the road. Some will call it a trap game but I just look at it more as a game that would be tough regardless of the circumstances. They play pretty good on their home turf and a win over the Cowboys would make thier season. They will give us their best shot.
