At least they are finally admitting wrestling has been treated kinda like a rotten stepchild.

Mike Holder: “We’ve done nothing for wrestling, we’ve taken it for granted... it’s won 34 championships, kind of, in spite of us. We need to make a statement that Oklahoma State wrestling is king of the hill... when will that happen? I don’t know. But the sooner, the better.”

Mike Holder will be patient and do his research. He is on record that when he goes to build new facilities for a program he wants to do it in line with the best. He will not settle for less.

With that being said I would imagine we will be looking at a $20-30 million facility if we decide to be fully committed to building it. The cost may be less if we utilized university owned land.

Just curious where you are getting the 20-30 million from. Is that a guess or did you hear that somewhere? The reason I ask is because I thought 18 million was a huge number for a wrestling building and the Iowa folks are claiming it will be the best wrestling facility in the world, not just the US.

Pure guess. Going off the $18 million estimate for the Iowa facility, the $49 million for the OhSt facility (multi sport use), and Rutgers commiting over $100 million for a massive facility that will house 4 athletic teams (rough estimate of $25 mill per team).

Wow, Rutgers is spending 100 million? I didn't know that. Good for them.

I hope you're right about us. I would've been happy to hear a guess of 12-15 million, 20+ would be just great. Do you have a sense of what a realistic timeframe would be if it does happen? Maybe 2022 - 2025?

Rutgers is a multi sport venue which will house and support several programs but no question the wrestling specific areas and amenities will be top of the line.

Yeah, I got that part. It's just that 100 million is a pretty big number and I hadn't heard Rutgers was making that kind of investment.

So any idea on the timing? I think the track facility is still first?

Mike Holder building a wrestling facility will drive this board up the wall. It will happen and it will top any facility in the country but it will take a while.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean. I think we all know Holder doesn't cut corners and it will be a terrific facility. I was simply asking if osu2082 heard anything new on a timeframe. I threw a possible date of 2025 out there (a complete guess on my part), so I don't think I'm driving up the wall.

I wasn't necessarily talking about just you. The baseball facility drove a lot of OSU fans crazy with how long it has taken. I just don't expect the wrestling facility to be any different.

OK, so when I ask "did you hear anything new on a possible timeframe?", your actual answer is "no, I didn't", but then also "be patient".

The new facility won't drive me up the wall. Neither will the RTC. But maybe sometimes there's such as a thing as being too patient? Holder pretty much said the University has ignored wrestling. Now we've dug ourselves a couple of holes that will take years and years to get out of. IMO, the RTC is the far more important one. The first thread I created on this board was about the RTCs (and I've since posted that Kerkvliet and Ferrari were flight risks because of it). I think the new facility is less important, but even there we've been complacent. Seth's article talked about moving the locker room and equipment. Take a look at this video from 5 years ago (starts at 4:50 but watch the whole thing because it's pretty cool).

A bigger project sure, but it didn't sound huge, probably would've been completed in a couple of years. So instead of having an expanded room with 5 1/2 mats by 2015, we will now wait for a new building by 2025, or 2030, or whenever.

The current project Seth is talking about seems like the beginning of the project in the video above. They had to wait until the soccer stadium was built prior to moving the locker room downstairs, so they could expand the current room.

Thanks for the memory jog, Wrassler, I hadn't put those two together until I saw your post.

Cowboy, got a couple of questions and you seem to be close to what's happening in Stillwater.

In the video, Zack says construction would kick off next year (meaning 2014). I thought he was referring to the wrestling room. Do you think he meant the cowgirl soccer complex and that got delayed a few years? Also, if we aren't going to build a new facility until say 2025 or beyond, do you think they'll resume the expansion plans in the interim? It's really only a matter of knocking down a few walls.

last night (when the avatar pic was taken) they were clearing the old locker room, everything stripped out of the actual locker room. I think this is part of it, the soccer was in the plans, and everyone was looking forward to it, and kind of got ahead of themselves. If they are going to move this year, not much time left to demo, but I do think they are getting ready to do so. There were still people working in there at 8:00, so there is some sense of urgency about something. Have not talked to anyone official about it, but with your reminder it is on my to-do list :)

With the soccer team moving their locker room and a few team room to the new stadium it does open up some nice extra space in GIA.

OK, think i have some updated info. This is not part of the expansion project, just some remodeling going on. No new mat space. Going to save the money to go to the new facility, which seems like is now in the background fundraising stage where they get a few big donors lined up. Hopefully it moves quickly through that stage to a broader fundraising effort to finish up as quickly as possible!
