I thought it was pretty slow but at least it appears to be evolving into something with potential.

I'm just gonna be irritated when they spend a whole season building up characters and then drop a cliffhanger at the end.

Clearly where we are headed.

Wait. So you are predicting that the season is going to end with a cliffhanger? That is crazy talk.

I think something unfortunate is going to happen to he and his brother regarding this retirement home case.

Appears Howard Hamlin and the firm are going to screw Jimmy over to me.

The firm will take over the case. Kim will rat out Jimmy and Chuck to get partner. Chuck will think it is a good idea to bring the firm in and then the firm strong arms Jimmy to get him off the case. This causes a fall out between Jimmy, Chuck and Kim and boom that is how you get Saul Goodman.

I think you guys are right about what is going to transpire.

It's really going to piss me off if Hamlin does not get a big ol karma raping.

Vince Gilligan's bad guys generally receive one eventually.

Chuck is still a partner of his law firm; therefore, from a legal standpoint, Chuck owes the partnership a fiduciary duty, meaning he cannot take a business opportunity himself without notifying the partnership. Otherwise, Chuck is breaching his duty of loyalty to the partnership. As such, Chuck is in the wrong here.

Believe me, I think Hamlin is a complete ass, but he would be right to inject the firm into this litigation because when Chuck started working on the case without notifying the law firm, he was in the wrong. Caveat: if there is an exception, allowing Chuck to take for-profit work outside the partnership, included in the formal, written partnership agreement, then he'd be ok to work with Jimmy…but I doubt that's the case.

Chuck would likely only be on the hook to the law firm for their share of any profits that would result. He could certainly pay Jimmy out of his share without any ramifications.

The issue was raised and Chuck sort of blew it off by claiming he had the right/ability to take on a case without consulting with his partners. For someone so versed in the law as Chuck is, I don't think he would have so willingly waived off the warning unless he was fairly certain he was on solid legal ground.

One would think, but it's pretty obvious that somehow Jimmy is about to get bent over and Hamlin is going in dry.

Also, Hamlin is going to be more than an arrogant asshole trope, it seems.

Per Vince Gilligan:

ÒThere is more to learnÉ let me just put it this way. We donÕt look at this guy like heÕs just a douchebagÉ heÕs as a fully formed, complex human being as we can allow for.Ó

Nailed it except for Kim ratting them out. Of course it was Chuck behind the firm strong arming Jimmie, but still.

Am I the only one that thinks this feels like 2 separate tv shows? I know its all going to come together, but the Saul centric, and Mike centric bits feel a bit disjointed. I really like both sides though, I hope next season starts with the story lines more fully merged.

Jimmy unconditionally loved his brother and would do anything for him. Turns out the brother is the douche who can't deal with the possibility he may have to deal with Jimmy as an equal or give any validity to Jimmy's accomplishments. Chuck is actually the elitist a-hole not Hamlin. Hamlin was just doing the job that he was asked to do and play the "bad cop" in the equation.

No wonder Jimmy is going to choose to change his name and completely cut the ties with Chuck. What a complete and utter betrayal and all because Chuck's ego can't get him to admit that Jimmy actually "worked his ass off" and put 2 & 2 together to come up with the fact that there was a case to even begin with.

Great episode again. Mike taking the dipsh!t's gun was classic, even though you knew it was coming. Chuck is a douche for sure. Something is going to happen to Chuck in the next episode I think.

Thought it was the best episode so far...

On an unrelated note, was watching an old Seinfeld episode tonight (The Abstinence) and thought I recognized an actor....

It was Odenkirk! He was the medical student that couldn't pass the bar who Elaine was yadayada'ing! His career took an upswing!

Absolutely, the "chimp with a machine-gun" line was beyond cold ... a knife to the heart. What an a-hole!...and after all Jimmy had done for him. Hell, Jimmy could have had him committed and become his conservator, most likely; but no, he stayed loyal to his brother. I'm sure Jimmy made a lot of mistakes in his past and Chuck, most likely had to fix them for him, but Jimmy, at this point, has really tried to turn his life around and worked incredibly hard to do so.

I think the show has done a great job of making Jimmy a sympathetic figure. I was already pulling for him before this, but now I'm 100% behind him...which is weird, knowing what he'll become and how it is all going to end for him.

Mario,

Odenkirk already had his own HBO show with David Cross when that Seinfeld came out, Mr. Show. I haven't seen an episode in years but laughed my ass off to it as a teenager.

It's a great show. I love it. Hope they make a million episodes.

Chillwell - "Hell, Jimmy could have had him committed and become his conservator, most likely; but no, he stayed loyal to his brother."

That's a great point. Jimmy could have had him committed and then as conservator could have forced HH&M to pay out Chuck's partnership share in the firm, which was mentioned earlier was worth around $13 Million. But his love for his brother would never have allowed him to do that. Chuck didn't just stick the knife in his back, he has been sticking it in and out for a long time.

No we know why he is going to re-brand himself as Saul Goodman, it wasn't for the nefarious purposes I was thinking all along, it was to escape Chuck's legacy and throw something back in Chuck's face for good measure.

Well that was a great episode I finally got to watch it last night. I was off and never saw Chuck being the bad guy. What a dick that guy is.

I never saw Saul as a nefarious or bad guy in BB. I guess I always just saw him as a typical attorney. Sorry Wood and the rest of you. :). I guess I'm admitting a stereotype. Please do not sue or boycott me.

As far as Mike goes, I'm trying really hard to like him however I still can't get past what he did for Victor Maitlin when he offed Mikey Tandino in Beverly Hills Cop.
I know it was a long time ago but I'm a grudge holder, what can I say!

Plus, he basically played the exact same role in BB as he did as Zach in BHC, the goon squad.

I just read that Grantland article. It is intriguing to think that the show doesn't necessarily have to stop once it starts bumping into the breaking bad storyline, that it could feasibility carry on from the opening cinnabon scene.
