Thoughts And Questions About Joe Manchin

I read there will be a red wave in the next election, that Republicans will easily sweep into power in the House. But the Senate, we are told, is more problematic, the Democrats may hold serve there. I also read where the Democrats are fed up with Manchin keeping them from achieving their goal of socialist paradise, they want to strip him of the powerful committee assignments he currently holds. There has even been talk that he might switch to the Republican side of the aisle. But that has not happened.

What are the odds he is waiting for the elections, to see if the Democrats keep their 50-50+VP majority? If they keep their majority and move to punish him he would then switch to Republican after bargaining for even better committee assignments, thus giving the Senate to the Republicans and becoming something of a hero to at least half the voting public.

Let’s suppose that happens. I don’t know what Manchin’s voting record is, but I assume it’s fair to say he’s voted with the Democrats much more often than the Republicans, much like Liz Cheney has been a reliable conservative/Republican vote in the House.. How long would it take before Republicans came to see Manchin as a traitor to his new party if he continued his voting pattern of siding with Democrats more often than Republicans? Would Republicans come to see him as a Trojan horse inserted into the party to frustrate its goals?

Discuss.

Manchin is just not a Democrats shill but still very much a Democrat. He votes with Democrats a little less than 70% of the time. While I would love for him to switch to the Republican party just to give Republicans control of the agenda in the Senate he would not be a reliable Republican vote, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
I'm a big believer in true bipartisan legislation, meaning legislation that is passed should be overwhelmingly supported by both parties not just a simple majority. IMO passing legislation with a vote of 51 in the Senate is not good legislation, it's more like authoritarian rule by the party in power. I think the country works better when the overwhelming majority of the people support legislation that is passed. When legislation is passed by one or two votes half the country is pissed off about it and that is not good for the country.

Biden has a 76% disapproval rating in WV, all Manchin is doing is playing save my political hide so can get re-elected. He would be smart to switch to the R's but I doubt he'll do that unless he is stripped of his committee positions though.

After the alleged "red wave" in November and I say alleged because there is still plenty of time for the R's to f'up their mojo (like Cruz saying the SCOTUS ruling on gay marriage in 2015 was a mistake) and pull defeat from the jaws of victory. If the libcomdems lose both the senate and house in November the long knives will be out for Manchin and Sinema as they are really the equivalent of the little dutch boy and dutch girl with their fingers plugging holes in the "we The People" dike before it collapses and rolls over the US to create a liberal authoritarian crap hole country.

This is why Trump scares me this go around. Because if he acts like a gigantic dbag again, but picks a capable VP who could be the Prez in 2028 he may sabotage that possibility by alienating so many people they don't care who is the VP and what they could offer as president. There really isn't a reason the R's shouldn't peel off an 8 to 12-year run at President.
