emphasis on might...

So, my daughter graduated from high school today. While at the ceremony, she was talking to a friend who will be attending Harvard next fall.

Her friend entered her name into the matching program in order to be paired with a roommate in the dorms. Yesterday, she found out that her roommate is Malia Obama.

Run!

Seriously though, that would be pretty cool.

I bet that's a total pain in the ass. She'll have secret service all over her. Guhhh.

Maybe the daughter can work her way into the inner circle and figure out how to get in on some of that Soros money.

Seems odd that Malia would go on random match for roomate. Pretty cool, but I'm a bit skeptical.

I would imagine her friend is about to undergo a thorough anal exam as well as her family. I'd say thanks but no thanks. Harvard would be tough enough without the sideshow.

Good luck. Hope you're okay with some serious invasion of privacy. Most likely, you'll never really know.

Bing-freakin'-O!! I got out of the Navy in '70 and returned to OSU. This would be the equivalent of getting Marilyn Chambers as my roommate at Forty-North. Blow my socks off!

As one who often gravitates toward the practical aspects of a situation, I kind of agree with this.

Showing up as a freshman to college and having secret service agents around all the time sounds momentarily cool followed by long term annoying.

You can be skeptical, but it is a true story. This girl is a good kid and my daughter knows her well. She would have no reason to lie. She is very bright (obviously if going to Harvard). Ranked #3 in a graduating class of over 1300.

This is what the young lady told my daughter. She said that now she doesn't even want to go due to the reasons many have mentioned in this thread.

I agree with the negatives that others have mentioned. I'm sure she will end up doing it though. There would be a lot of potential positives that go along with it. She would have a chance to experience things that very few college students can imagine and would remember those things for the rest of her life.

I agree, but it would require a level of maturity and patience not common in an 18yo to see it through. I hope she can since there is quite a bit of interesting opportunity there in spite of the challenges.

Yeah. I figure they have already vetted her and her family extensively.

This is something my family was wondering about. Will Malia have an agent (agents?) following her around campus and to parties, dates, etc? Will there be an agent in her dorm (like in the next room) when she sleeps? Is it optional? Could the Obamas choose to have minimal or no security assigned to her? I wonder how it all works?

Based on things I have read long ago it would be almost certain that there was one agent assigned and probably two or three, maybe more. How close they remain to her person in various situations is something I just don't remember and it's possible that there is some variability based on preference. Now that her father is a former president there may be some flexibility.

Will Malia get her some primo weed?

Guy I went to high school with went to Stanford with Chelsea Clinton. When she would ride her bike around campus, two olde guys dressed as college students would ride about 10-20 yards behind her. It was obvious who they were. He said that a well-known rumor was that they would buy her weed for her to ensure it wasn't laced with anything.

been i figured you figured it would be a totally random harvard draw

as any sort of investigation of the other party to this cataclysmic event wouldn't really be fair and the necessary depths of the investigation possibly an invasion of their privacy

No idea what you are trying to say.
