AG Department has armed agents and the OSBI commissions (but doesn’t pay) up to 20 Cattle Rangers that enforce the cattle rustling and other livestock theft laws. Many of those same Cattle Rangers get commissioned by the Texas Rangers (TX DPS) for the same thing, so they have cross border jurisdiction.

They are paid by the Southwestern Cattlemen and Ranchers Association....a private entity....so they are the last vestiges of the old school western “posse” that you see in the movies.
