I find it strange that a bunch of non-scientific lawyers (aka Congress) determines what substances can be researched. I just don't get why the drug classification impacts medical research. Look at something like Uranium. Clearly its highly dangerous for an individual to possess, but that shouldn't preclude us from researching and better understanding it. Controls and guardrails are always a better solution than direct prohibition.

I can understand the concern with fentanyl, and have seen what the effects of improper use can do. In that aspect I understand the concern to do something about the illegal shipments into the US. At the same time I agree there is valid medical use, and would like to know what turning Fentanyl into a class 1 narcotic really gets you? Does it improve the security at the border? I would say no. Does it mean less people will use the drug in a non prescription way? Again I would agree and say no. From the looks of it, it looks like a bait on the White House. Biden doesn't look to be taking the bait. Most likely a bad move by Republicans. It only puts them in position to have the bait thrown at them later.

Is it bait? I read it more like a knee-jerk (a poor one at that) of simply trying to "do something" no matter how stupid that solution actually is. That is not a uniquely democrat trait, no matter how often they dems try to demonstrate otherwise.

That said, Repubs would be much better served to tie this situation to border security and hang it around the Dems' neck like an albatross.

Even more head scratching considering the number of medical doctors that are "R's" in congress and know dam well it has legitimate uses. Notice also that since nearly all this stuff comes from china to mexico and then the US there is absolutely no talk of taking the fight to the source, nope we have to try to scare everyone via the moral police media. Once people realize that "R's" and "D's" are just opposite sides of the same coin with one of those sides given endangered species status by the wholly corrupt media then life is good.
