The Walking Dead

I've liked it all right, but I haven't held the show in as high of esteem as some of you do for quite some time. I think it's about to get rolling again soon.

They need to do something, the show is shedding viewers at historical rate:

  • 7x01: 17.03 million
  • 7x02: 12.46 million
  • 7x03: 11.72 million
  • 7x04: 11.40 million
  • 7x05: 11.00 million
  • 7x06: 10.40 million

I understand the Negan story line was "great" for the comic books, and although some bailed after the graphic nature shown in the first episode, I'm fine with him being the prick that he displayed in the premiere. However, it got old real fast as this season has "developed"...I'm REALLY damn sick of the story line being so much "human vs. human" rather than, you know...fighting/killing zombies. It's almost as if the writers/producers feel they have to weave in a token zombie kill here and there just to say they did or try and showcase a new special effects method of a zombie head getting sliced in two. I'm fine with the later, but not as a token scene as they've been doing lately.

Some would say that the human vs. zombies story line has been played out and wouldn't be as interesting, but I would disagree--I would love for them to finally get enough humans who are "good" (which I know is relative in this universe), have enough weapons (let's see them get creative--not just ARs, knives, or pikes--let's see some creative welded weapons or some zombie-killing vehicles created!), and get enough gumption to take start taking back a city block or something while working toward getting the whole city back. See if they can get somehow establish society again rather than just a small town/community as they've done. Hell, even get enough juice to power up a computer and internet to try and make contact with others around the country and world. That's where I thought they might go once they went to the CDC in Atlanta, but that ended quite abruptly, of course.

I don't know...I'm just getting tired of "Oh, lookout--the Governor is an ass. Wait! You thought he was a prick, just wait for the skinny emo at Terminus who'll eat you. OH yeah?!? Just wait to you see Negan swing his phallic Lucille around and bash some skulls!!" This story line just gets old to me...

This season has been boring. It is clear that the goal is to unite all of the communities in a big battle with the Saviors, but it is taking too long to get us to that point.

I agree that it would be more interesting to see more Zombie interactions.

Unfortunately, when it comes to television series, I'm in it for the long haul no matter how bad the quality declines. Ugh. I hope TWD picks up soon. I've been beyond bored the last two episodes.

Hey hey hey ... are you guys telling me you didn't enjoy that 95-minute episode that focused on that one character I forgot about and her interaction with the girl-power city?

I remember thinking... she's still alive?

But, they killed Glen, so it's all good.

Last night was a little better. At least Carl and Michone still have some nuts. Darell and Rick are inching toward looking for their's.

I get it. Negan is a black hearted sonofabitch. We can stop beating that plot device into the ground.

Your last comment is probably the most frustrating thing to me in these episodes. I think I've even shouted "I get it!" to the tv a time or two. Enough, TWD, get on with the damn story.

Sorry. Why the he'll didn't Carl pull the trigger on Negan? That was lame. Other than that fine.

My biggest complaint is that Negan does not come across as a guy who would command so much respect from his followers. They have now watched people kill a bunch of Saviors and get off easy with consistency. Rick's group killed about 20 people at an outpost. Response...Negan bashes Abraham's skull into mush. (Glenn was killed in response to Daryl punching Negan). Carl kills 2 of Negan's men. Response...Negan walks him around the Savior HQ and gives him the grand tour, then loads him in a truck and drives him back to Alexandria.

Meanwhile, one of the Saviors decides to skip out on part of a shift so he can get laid. Response: Negan irons one side of his face off.

If I am one of the Saviors, I am looking for the first chance I have to get the heck away from the Saviors and take my chances on the road. Sooner or later, Negan would have a mutiny on his hands due to all of his leadership inconsistencies.

My wife and I were discussing the same thing BJ. I get a cult-like personality, and people following that person against all reason and logic. But usually, they do it out of some weird religious zealotry or out of some deep, irrational love and affection for the "dear leader," fomented by heavily controlled propaganda.

With Negan, I see none of that. He is simply brutal & tyrannical, and you see numerous examples of his "followers" (even those close to him) giving him the stink eye behind his back. The show, to me, seems to demonstrate great resentment and hatred of Negan, even by those who support him.

So...I get the ruling out of fear angle, but there's got to be some loving devotees mixed in there to support him. At this point I haven't seen any of that. It makes you question why there isn't a coup or a even a lone assassin who just takes him out?

Only guess is they know how wide his reach is and knows they can't join up with anyone that isn't getting squeezed by Negan, so they stay because it is better than being alone.

I can kind of see that. We have seen 2 instances of people opting to leave and it didn't work out for either of them. Dwight got his face ironed and the other guy ended up on a pole in the zombie yard. I'm guessing that all of the zombies in the yard are former Saviors who left and were hunted down. Obviously, that is a pretty strong deterrent.

Still, that does not preclude a mutiny, or a lone gunman taking him out after his wife gets added to the harem or his face gets ironed.

You guys keep up with North Korea much?
Obviously, no North Korea expert, but doesn't the dear leader take care of those closest to him. I've read or heard others describe how if you're in the very top echelon of their society you couldn't have a better life.

BTW & off topic, are there ever words you know & use in conversation on a somewhat regular basis, and yet when it comes time to write them, you cannot come close to spelling them? And then you're dumbfounded on why don't I know that and I can't believe I was that far off?

Echelon, for me, in this post. Damn, I was all kinds of ways off...thank you google.

Kim Jong Un, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Hussein, Qaddafi, and the likes have maintained power through fear and oppression for centuries. For instance, Kim Jong Un lined up a few members of his cabinet not to long ago and executed them with an anti aircraft gun. That sounds pretty Negan like to me...

"we are all Negan" - That's the quote, which I believe symbolizes the belief on the part of several of his followers that if they stick with Negan they will likewise continue to reap the benefits (even if a sliver) of what he is getting from the other local communities. It's not all "stick" there seems to be quite a bit of "carrot" involved that have bound those surrounding him to them. He's spreading the spoils around and many are responding positively.

So, the first half of this season was really boring. At least Rick is going to stop acting like a P now. If only Carol would do the same.

p.s. Rosita is so effin hot.

So who was watching Rick and following him back to the compound in Alexandria? Someone from the Kingdom, if not Ezekiel himself?

From his conversation with Carol and Morgan, it appears that one of Ezekiel's top lieutenants had been pushing for the Kingdom to attack the Saviors so perhaps Ezekiel has learned of Alexandria and Hilltop and doing a little recon?

BTW, I love how the people at Hilltop are basically ignoring Gregory and naturally gravitating to Maggie. She's now running the place, whether the change in leadership has been formalized or not. The guy on the tower disgustedly telling Gregory to give up his apple to a pregnant woman clearly showed the mood of the residents and their growing lack of respect for Gregory.

BTW, worm-tongue Spencer got what he deserved, what a little suck-up, Benedict Arnold like bastard he turned out to be. Watching that scene, you just knew that Negan had no respect for a guy who would sell-out Rick as a means of taking over leadership of Alexandria. Saw that one coming. But I liked the contrast between what he seemed to learn from his mother about being a leader, compared to what Maggie was able to absorb in a short amount of time from the same woman.

I don't think so. My impression is that Ezekiel is going to need to be convinced to join the fight against the Saviors. I don't see any reason for the writers to have someone from the Kingdom find Alexandria since they can just have Morgan return to Alexandria and connect Rick to Ezekiel.

I was thinking maybe the person spying on Alexandria was one of the chicks from Oceanside. We know they have a huge cache of guns, so I figure they will be part of the affiliation against the Saviors. Tara swore not to tell anyone about Oceanside, and, it is hard to imagine anyone approaching them and gaining their trust. But, maybe if Oceanside watched Alexandria for a while and approached them (for an alliance), it could work.

With that said, I suspect that the person spying on Alexandria is someone we haven't seen before. Maybe a new character or a representative from another community that is being oppressed by the Saviors.

p.s. What happened to Heath? We know he is still alive, yet he never returned to Alexandria. Maybe another community snatched him up and will end up joining the alliance.

Mad I just got done with the 11th Book on the comic series and the group that just showed up seems to be crazy. Also the war went really quick in the comic books.
