Ironically in the same region as the shot heard around the world that started a bloody chapter in our history, the insult heard around the world has apparently done the same thing. In 2009 president Obama gave license to criticize police for just trying to do their job. They weren't camped out, looking for black people that night. They were called and they responded because that's what they do. Did the black man on the other end show his id and get on with his life (a very privilaged one I might add)? No, he made a show out of it and made a mountain out of mole hill to prove a point. The media ran with it due to ratings, we had a little beer picnic and from then on race relations have deteriorated.

So far Obama has opened his big mouth while the twenty something radical in him only grows in vocabulary, but not in wisdom. Interjecting himself when the victim could look like his children, but only if the perpetrator did not. He has lectured us on Jim Crow and slavery and ceremoniously participating in the Selma bridge crossing. Where are the lectures for those that look like his children who kill eachother nightly in this country? Why is he associating with al sharpton who drinks the blood of black victims to exploit them for another day in the limelight? How many times has sherriff Clark been invited to the White House? Why is he glorifying jay z by partying in the White House instead of condemning the lyrics of rap music that go against every liberal tenant that exists?

What could have been such a real change factor for innocent and motivated black people in this country, they now find themselves in a crossfire between two groups armed to the teeth and scared to death to let the other one get the drop on them. I think even those of us who didn't vote for him were rooting for him to make the lives of minorities better. That was his resume, community organizer, right? He blew it and our new reality is pretty short on hope and long in the wrong direction of change.

5 out of 5.

Today, after looking at the statistics Sys doesn't want to bring up, and (me) honestly being surprised (shocked is more accurate) at the delta between handgun and rifle violence, it honestly entered my mind that Obama just might not care that much about black people not of his socio-economic level.

I'm not asserting that as a fact, but it did occur to me after familiarizing myself with the raw numbers.

Because for all the preaching on "gun control," I don't hear much talking or energy directed at helping the black-on-black violence statistics or drug gang banger culture.

Instead, it almost seems like when a rifle is used in a relatively rare act of violence (check the statistics versus other vehicles), the President is most content to not let a crisis go to waste.

That's why he is so piss-poor at discerning the "motive" of certain shooters but, by God, if it fits a narrative serving an agenda, he's very specific and decisive with his words. Because, as we all know, words do matter.

Yes, I'm sure the dallas and baton rouge shooters really deliberated on what the POTUS would think.... It's pitiful, laying this at a president's feet.

Obama has been profiled himself, and he didn't like it. I heard a republican, black SC senator's speech this morning and he talked about how often he gets profiled. Ditto for the black surgeon that operated on the Dallas cops. I can't believe you white people think he's just supposed to... what, say nothing? Ignore it? Pretend it's not there because it makes white people uncomfortable? Where are you even coming from on this? He's never, ever, came close to supporting violence against cops. Given what you hear from very respectable and successful black people about being profiled, I'm surprised these cop killings don't happen more frequently. God knows simpletons can get a gun easy enough...

The Baton Rouge deal is even more local than the LA riots, isn't it? That's where they shot Alton Sterling. And there are plenty of racial riots that have broken out -- they've slowed down, if anything. Hell they had race riots when Jack Johnson won the heavyweight championship in 1910.
It's gone on forever.

That does zero to address the point.

People get profiled for a reason. Our whole life is profiling. Everything someone wears, faces they make, hair styles, skin color, culture it is all part of the puzzle. For some nitwit to come on here and lump republicans or white people or Christians or neocons into his simpleton hate filled mental files for a few years to lecture police about how to do their job without using the statistics and endless empirical evidence available to them is ridiculous.

Guess what, if there is a young white male driving a car he isn't old enough to afford in north Tulsa, he is more than likely a spoiled brat from Jenks buying drugs. Is that one ok because the pigment matches your narrative?? I feel sorry for you people who have to constantly justify stupidity.

Stupidity is linking a comment from 7 years ago to the increased visibility and horrendous reaction to current events. Then again, par for the course here...

Yes. We never see comments Bush made 9, 10, 12, 15 years ago tossed about around here blaming him for something going on in current events. Stupidity?

We also don't see a pattern of behavior from the President or Department of Justice, time and again, speaking without facts and framing an incident that implies no extension of the presumption of innocence or gives premature legitimacy that a wrong has been committed.

Don't tell me that words don't matter.

Not serious... especially not in this context.
Who isn't serious? Me? Probably right. That was the Sunday tequila bomb talking.

I will say this - I think my point was regarding the company line of Obama having been profiled and that justifies his divisive rhetoric (yesterday being a notable and welcome exception) in which he routinely blames racism for garden variety police brutality before anything like an investigation has taken place.

His job should not be to stir shit up. His job should be to do exactly what he did yesterday - and try to settle people down from the brink. It's indefensible and that is the koolaid I was probably referring to.

I am shocked at this statement. I would have never guessed you would take this stance.

It's Obama's fault the Baton Rouge guy shot the cops. He wouldn't have done it if Obama wouldn't have constantly told people to shoot cops.
