An old proverb attributed to Thomas Fuller in the 1600's.
Mike Holder did Mike Boynton no favor in naming him as the HC of the OSU men's BB team. I can not think of an OSU coach in any sport having so little support starting out in his/her new job. If he fails, OSU fans in unison will rise and say "I told you so."
But what if, against all odds, he succeeds. Does Holder get credit? Does Boynton reward OSU for giving him his first chance by actually showing the loyalty we expected from his predecessor?
As others have alluded to, of the 5 guys interviewed yesterday, Boynton was the least known and the least expected to get the job. If given a chance to vote in a poll, he would have received zero votes only if less than zero was not an option. So something about him resonated with the interview committee. Yes, this was Holder's decision, but there were 3 BOR's and the president of the university in that room as well. By letting MH extend the offer to Boynton, they voiced their approval as well.
The night is always darkest just before dawn. Reading these boards this afternoon is as dark as I have ever seen since I joined. I just have to wander if the dawn may be just around the corner. It would not surprise me.
