Three years ago, the announcement of the new OSU OC was a stunner...an unknown from a community college in the Ukraine (or thereabouts) was awarded a high 6-figure salary to take over the position vacated by Monken the Great (blessed be he). Stunner. To quiet the orange faithful's anxiety, videos began to surface of Yurcich's playcalling wizardry; Shippensburg highlight videos (hide your eyes) and LEGO diagrams. They backfired. LEGO diagramming and playcalling ineptitude quickly became synonymous. The early visions of a Boise State-esque "diamond in the rough" OC hire were quickly dashed on the rocks of reality...the consensus was near unanimous; MY was in over his head and his tenure would be short.
Fast forward to yesterday. Against the Red Raiders (Texas Tech, not Shippensburg), LEGO guy staked the plains of Lubbock with a signature game warranting Master Yoda's jealousy. The trickeration foreshadowed in the infamous LEGO video was suddenly fulfilled. Reverses and double reverses. Double passes and a "lefty flipper". A running QB tossing it deep while a throwing QB ran the zone read. Trickeration galore. The mythical "statue of Liberty" Boise State offense finally realized despite (because of) a patchwork OL. Just like at Ship U; 600+ yards of offense, 70 points, and another win.
Well done LEGO guy! Keep up the good work. I've always liked Star Wars and LEGOs and I want to be a fan. I'm looking forward to the hook and ladder - either next week or (perhaps more appropriately) at Bedlam. Go Pokes!
