I have been traveling to our local clubs the past three days, so I have been trying to listen and follow through ESPN and this board.
I am going to get ripped by many...but felt I would share my opinion. This whole thing is a joke. It really is...just listened to Jim Boeheim on ESPN. Really???? Saying the system needs to be fixed?????
I am not for College Athletes being paid...(hold on people that are for it) in terms of Jay Bilas. But, the stipend or incentive can be increased. The thought that it can’t....is just not factual. You could provide a “across the board” to all sports. The problem right now to me...is it doesn’t matter. There will always be the differential in conferences or schools.
My dad was an AD...some of you will know for who. Turned the University in for “extended benefits and above and beyond cash allowances”. It has been going on since the start of the NCAA tournament. I remember going with my family to the regional finals in 1986. Birmingham, Alabama. We were watching UAB. I’m shooting baskets and playing around with the McClains and Presley from Villanova. But...on the other end...and I will never forget this....
UAB is practicing...Rollie Massimino walks up to Gene Bartow and says...”where the hell did the kids come from”.....
Coach smiles and says “local”. These guys all have “handlers”. And if you think it is just limited to basketball or football...you are naive. This stretches to every level of college athletics.....EVERY LEVEL
