At this point nobody other than Mike Gundy, his lawyers, and the OSU administration and their lawyers know how this will ultimately play out. That said, IF Gundy returns on a reduced salary with more accountability and a lesser buyout, he is absolutely a dead man walking. It is the least desirable outcome from the Dangerous Game. And may well go down as a Dangerous Game lost.

Now, he’s pulled the rabbit out of this hat before but my expectation for the state of the program over the next year IF he returns is that there is a 90% chance a new coaching search will be underway by this time next year.

Alternative scenario: perhaps Gundy has received the funds to tap an up and comer as a head coach in waiting/co-head coach to allow him to get up to speed on what’s involved in running a P4 program. That could be the outcome of this if Gundy returns, but seems like a hard sell. Anyway, we will see how this concludes, but I have to admit I didn’t think the game would end up where we are right now.

Thoughts?
