Took my boys to their first college game. Taking 2 boys 4 and 3 years old does not make for an easy time to just watch a game. The youngest was wearing the noise cancelling head phones and scared to death of their Mascot. Between assuring him the mascot wouldn't get him, bathroom, and concession trips, here is what I was able to see from the game.
Game day observations. Enjoyed the arena. We had pretty good seats 17 rows up. The crowd was great for Christmas break. Not a lot of students but they did a good job of filling up the arena. The sound system was great. Could understand everything they were saying. Crowd got real loud in the 2nd half when they went on their runs.
Physically we did not match up very well. The guards were very well built and played like they were stronger. Other than Moretti, they were thick and very athletic. Their Freshman are very good athletes. Ice did not play a very good game. Looked tentative at times and was not very aggressive on either end. May have looked different on TV, but i thought they did a good job of bodying him up and was physical with him. We shot the ball fairly well early and that kept us in the game. Shot's stopped falling and everything starting falling for them. The change started when Yor picked up his 2nd foul. We did not do a very good job of getting him going early. He had a size advantage inside but we didn't do a good job of trying to get him the ball, but he also didn't do a good job of keeping his postion inside. Got pushed around pretty good.
The boys will have to play a lot tougher and smarter on Monday night or they will get manhandled again. We are just as athletic with our young guys, but we are no where close physically. They need to hit the weight room hard this offseason!
