Lots of stuff on the internet but does anybody have experience with this? I’m going out tonight and this weekend and I would like to successfully pull this off at least once. I don’t want to use chemicals.

I just know once you spend 6 months getting all the fat/muscle, etc off of it, you have to chew that bugger for a long time. I kid though I had heard long ago that's what they did and the saliva broke down some of the proteins in the hide and made them more supple. That has to be with the hair off.

Make sure you piss on it and put lots of brains on it before chewing.
I actually have a friend who tans a lot a deer hides. I have a bow case made entirely of hand tanned deerskin. I have no idea exactly what and how he does it, but I can ask him, if you want.
