I do love me some Merle. The problem I’ve always had with that particular song is that when it came out Muskogee was considered the mj/cocaine capital of Oklahoma. Bad choice of town.Well Dan it wouldn't suck quite so bad if you'd set that music down. Here's something that eases our senescence:
Sturgill is great. Unfortunately for him he sounds too much like Waylon, and Waylon got there first. So that has always held Sturgill back a little bit in being completely accepted (My opinion). He ought to be a superstar by now. Good songs!
You said nothing I disagree with. Except I don’t think he’s reached Tim McGraw/Willie Nelson/ Faith Hill/Reba category yet. He’s so good he’ll probably get there. Now don't take this the wrong way. Waylon is waaaaay up there and has maybe the best C & W voice ever. But I'd give Sturgill's song writing an edge over Waylon by quite a bit. Sturgill has crossed over to superstardom now, imo.
He does sound like Waylon sometimes, though.
