1990, sirDidn’t gun free school zones start in the 90s?
Is it possible that school free zones actually are responsible, at least in part, for that decrease in school shootings since then?
Considering that there have been 144 school shootings since the beginning of 2010 and there were a total of 88 school shootings between 1960-1990 (when the gun-free zone was enacted), I would say there is zero correlation in this "decrease". That study does not seem accurate.
SMemmett, I could not agree with you more. Especially when it comes to "Local" news coverage. Example, tuned into channel 9 (OKC) tonight and the first three stories were about 1. A guy stealing a car during a test drive; 2. A robbery in Tulsa at an bank/atm; and 3. a guy shoplifting some clothes from Macy's here in OKC.The constant barrage of horrible nightly news stories has tricked people into thinking we're living in a relatively dangerous time. There's been violence and weirdos for centuries, we just didn't hear about them all the time.
Where are you getting your numbers from?
OP posted where his numbers came from.
When you randomly throw out numbers without actual citation to source, it sounds made up.

I used the noggin the good Lord gave me and counted them. Of course the "study" is talking about mass shootings. A shooting is a shooting when it involves a "gun-free" zone, right?
Next.
It would be interesting to see school shooting data prior to 1990. Because the data does show a strong decline in shootings since early 1990. And that Gun Free School Act made under H.W. Bush does correlate with what appears to be a decline (but was it declining before 1990 and this was just a trend continued??)Didn’t gun free school zones start in the 90s?

Question though: I went to school in the 80s. Unless my memory is significantly flawed, I don’t remember guns being allowed then either.
I guess that since there are no other sources for this information, we should use a skewed study.Wikipedia.
Legit.

An infinite amount of knowledge you must have.
You could definitely pull up and park at our high school in 80-82 with a rifle on a gun rack in the back of your truck and no one would bat an eye.It would be interesting to see school shooting data prior to 1990. So you think the decline in school shootings from the past should be even more pronounced? My guess is that shootings went under-reported in previous decades because no one thought of it as a national/political issue.
About that time they were banned after a terrible accident (not on campus) in Cushing. You could definitely pull up and park at our high school in 80-82 with a rifle on a gun rack in the back of your truck and no one would bat an eye.
