Anybody watching this? I m a fan, but my question is for those that have seen it, what do you think about the introduction? The music is super groovy. How are they doing the graphics on NYC? Blowing my mind.......
Jan Brady.Did you just say "super groovy"? Is that you Greg Brady?
The fence posts of time flow pretty quickly at my age. Two weeks from now is like day after tomorrow.
I'm guessing that link makes sense to you, but it was Greek to me. What I did gather ( I think) is that all of that is real film shot at different angles at different speeds? Hell, I'm sure that's wrong. I just know I not sure I've seen that before and I can't figure out whether John baptize is really dunking that ball or whether that's animation.
It's a matter of blur. in Tilt shift, your eye is tricked into thinking you are looking at a miniature diorama. Like a train set. Basically it applies a shallow depth of field (area of tight focus) and a rapid gradient blur to a landscape shot which would not normally have something like that - because in a landscape, everything would basically be at an infinity focus with no discernible depth of field (like you might see in an outdoor portrait or live action game shot). It gives the illusion that you are seeing something in miniature. I can post a before/after of something like that if you are interested. It's actually a pretty easy edit that Photoshop has a simple filter for creating. The Colbert intro just uses the same principles with a lot of other advance editing. It's really striking, but not difficult to explain.
I think I followed what you said, but than I had to google "gradient" so I'm not sure I understand any of it. I just know I like it. If you have time, when you have time I would love to see a before/after of something like that.
But, so are they manipulating real video? Is the Colbert to John B dunk real? Like I posted, I don't really understand this, but I think it's some cool chit.

janroc, here is a really basic tilt-shift. You kind of need to have the right angle where you are overhead but not so much that there isn't a perception of distance from the bottom of the image to the top of the image. Just pulled a googled image of BPS to do a 30 second tilt shift edit - something Photoshop has in it's basic filters menu. It could be better if it were really being done on a master file with printing in mind, but should give you the idea.
Am I the only one that doesn't really care for Colbert? He's by all accounts a great guy, but I just don't find him funny or interesting.
