While it's an idiotic rebuttal to the question of what will this cost, I don't think she was actually suggesting that anyone actually do it even in the deepest, darkest corners of her brain. She got the verbiage from the public health director. The rhetoric was used to make a point about the frustration of the case overall, not the individual asking the question.

That said, absolutely terrible management of this outbreak by the health department and governor's office. From what I've read, it sure sounds like intentional malfeasance might be involved. No citations issued? Are you serious?

I think the criminal inquiry is very appropriate. I also think the only way to stop this kind of stuff is steep personal penalties for the involved governmental officials. Accountability starts with those who are charged with protecting the public. Do your job with the public health and welfare as the only priority and you never have to worry about personal penalties. Doing the right thing should be a natural thing for anyone in public service.
