Steel for Keystone XL

If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. Premiums will be lowered by $2500. If you like your plan you can keep your plan. Sometimes things don't work out the way they were planned. It happens. Were your panties in wad each time Obama was wrong? I don't remember that being the case. Embarrassed, no. Outraged, not even close. Duped, not really. Your "outrage" is noted though.

Any of us in the industry knew this wasn't a thing. There is no sick thing as US steel in sizes for pipelines. Beyond that, the bulk of the pipe sections were already produced.

I'm not outraged.

Were you outraged with some of the outright lies your guy said? This one wasn't a lie, he just didn't know.

Wasn't aware of original promise.

Now that I am, my question is "How can the government tell a private company what materials to use?"

Unless there's more that I don't know, why did he say that in the first place?
Ding, ding, ding; we have a winner!

Sort of like how can the government tell a private citizen they must have health insurance or be fined?

Trump specifically said that during negotiations of these two pipelines he asked them to use us steel. He then said they agreed and that no one ever thought to ask before. He was using this to tout his negotiating skills. If it wasn't a thing then he shouldn't have said it.

I'm sure being president is hard but trump brings this on himself. For the 100th time, stfu and concentrate on the work. If liberals are on life support, trump for some reason is doing too many things to keep them alive.

I don't have to see the quotes. There is no way TCPL would have agreed to US steel as that would have been impossible as there are no mills producing pipe of those diameters in the US.

It wasn't a full EO, but it was a bit more than asking nicely. It was a presidential memo instructing the secretary of Commerce to develop a plan that would require any company that builds a pipeline within U.S. borders to use American-made materials and equipment.

You have his statements on video.

Yes, pretty much exactly like that. Except now, there is no gnashing of teeth and howls of outrage over this one.

I can't find the video but I watched it the day of. Then he straight up lied.
Unnecessarily. Were people clamoring for us steel? Not that I saw.

Trump reminds me of some relatives I have that are on prescription meds. He just brags and touts and spouts off about himself in a glowing stream of conscience but reality is kind of an ebb and flow.

So I need to gnash my teeth and outrageously howl to show my objection to this? Look, I think Trump is a moron. Have since the first childish debate, but the one thing I said many times over during the election was I wanted Donald to blow this MFer up. As far as I'm concerned he's doing just that. All this liberal bed wetting about Trump is absolutely entertaining. Keep it up Donald.

I see what you're saying, and I like it that he's an outsider. But how hard is it to be an honest outsider?

In all fairness, one is a suggestion/request and the other is an actual law.

In all fairness, one is a direction to his Commerce director to make it a law/requirement and the other is an actual law....which are pretty damned close to each other.

In further all fairness, someone else made the comparison and I responded....'pretty much exactly like that', not "exactly like that".

I didn't say you in particular need to do anything.

That was a general statement. I did see much howling and gnashing of teeth over ACA and that comment by Obama in particular.

In all fairness, fair enough. I'll wait to gnash my dentures (Sooner fan) until the steel thing actually becomes a law.

One directly impacts me, the other has zero direct impact on my life. Other than that they are both good examples of politicians talking out of their arse, nothing new.

Could've been the clip here...

He explicitly states "I made 'em" - is it possible he was misled?

What exactly is he blowing up outside of his credibility?

If simply pissing off the opposition is "blowing it up" then Obama was a demolitions expert.

First thing he did was he sent the scum bag pieces of shit clintons packing. That in an of itself was all I wanted to see. The "establishment" has taken a body blow like never before. The media is no longer relevant in the eyes of most people. Whiney liberals on this board are a hoot to listen to now. Cup has been blown up so bad he's delirious, and his post reflect that. Blowing up his credibility? He never had any, with many people, so I don't know what your point is with this.

Why wouldn't we use US steel?

If the same quality of steel can be shipped from China, Japan or wherever for less money, maybe the US Steel industry needs to take a look inward.
