I am surprised this has not received more attention. It is obviously a very important part of the game, can flip field position from time to time, and also change momentum. Robbie Discher was named ST coach of the year last year by Football Scoop and will field an even better team this year.
It speaks volumes to me when the coaches say only 3 or 4 freshmen will play this year. We usually have more than that on ST alone. ST are a great place to play young DB's and LB's to get them some game experience and see how they perform under pressure. Normally, ST is a place we would see guys like Balous, Henry, Green, McGruder, and Brown get their first action.
Of course Grogan is back and is now healthy for the first time in a long time. He will handle both KO and FG duties. He says his range is now in the 50 to 55 yard category and his accuracy is better. Good news there.
Zack Sinor(another 2 star but what kicker isn;t) will handle punts. He has no live game action yet but his distance is acceptable(40 yards plus) and his hang time is above average to even really good(I am hearing 4.5 sec).
Tyreek is gone but it sounds like Carr and McClesky have shown great speed and instincts along with a couple of the returning guys(Glidden, Shepherd, Seales, and Washington have all taken some catches). I think we can expect a few TD's from this group.
Coverage units should be where we really shine with all of the proven speed, tackling ability and experience returning.
ST's will be a strength on this team and that is saying something since this team appears to already have several strengths in place.
