Following are some of my thoughts from my trip to OSU:
1. Great turnout for the game. Considering the threat of bad weather, the turnout was excellent. It was perhaps the most number of fans I can remember for a Spring finale.
2. I've followed the team for over 40 years. I can say we have more quality depth than anytime I can remember. When you consider the players who were held out, and the ones coming in this Summer, it's almost unbelievable. Lunblade, Sheperd, Ateman, Glidden, Levini,
Seaton, Kurzu, Paleile, Pertile, and Mays did not play at all. At least 4-5 of those will start next season, and we still were able to look much better than anytime last year. Throw in Carson and Hunter into mix, and things look even brighter.
3. The 2014 recruiting class may rank among the top 2-3 classes we've ever had. Many of the players we signed have turned out to be significantly better than we could have ever imagined. Washington, Richards, Whitener, Frazier, and Walterschied, were not heavily recruited. They are now beating out players who were more heavily recruited. Rudolph, Carter, Owens, Brown, Hughes, and Taylor were all heavily recruited, and they have not disappointed.
4. We can win the conference next season provided we continue to improve depth on the offensive line, avoid serious injuries to key personnel, and have Carson , Mays, or Paleile come through at running back. Coach Adkins may be the best coaching addition we've had in many years. I believe Coach McEndoo will be superb, as well.
5. Players who impressed me were Carter, Taylor, Walterschied, Rudolph, Hays, Lacy, Washington, Burton, Whitener, Veatch, and Peterson. There were many others who were also impressive. I spoke to Keenen after the scrimmage. He is one of the most physically imposing wide receivers I've seen in a long time. His arms are huge and long. He looks better than Bowman, and as big as Dykes was when he was a senior.
6. On another subject, the campus is absolutely gorgeous. I've visited over 50 campuses across the country, and few can compete with ours. Given we're not located near the ocean or In the mountains, the campus is magnificent. The new buildings going in place are stunning, and the new Greek houses near the campus are unbelievable. If you haven't visited the campus in the past few years, you wouldn' believe your eyes. The campus has always looked great, but it's even better now.
