Of course he won't talk about that. Doesn't fit his narrative. Iran is abusing darling Feckless in Chief while he just smiles and acts like this monumental Iranian deal is worth the paper it's written on. Is he that stupid that he doesn't see the Iranian leadership stepping all over him or is it an ego problem?

They're killers and fanatics.

We hunt em down and kill em

Ask Osama bin Laden

'Take a vote" Paul!!!

"We the People"...
work together
rise and fall together
rational and constructive debates
fix our politics
basic bonds of trust
Our public lives wither when only loudest among us are heard
Folks in this chamber...feel trapped...nooise coming out of your base..you told me

He's a condescending ass. He lectures he doesn't give a speech.

If this is his legacy speech it's a whole bunch of preachy bull crap.

If you can't acknowledge the artful construction of this message, then you really need to step back a bit. You can and probably should disagree with some of these points but to dismiss it as crap means you aren't listening....

I'm sorry I've never considered Obama to be all that special of an orator. His use of first person pronouns constantly is narcissistic and bad form. You can hear his disdain for people who disagree with him in his voice and like I said, his style is preachy.

Not impressed.

The end was well done. The rest was laundry lust of either things he criticized other people for doing that he's been AS GUILTY of or more, OR a fantasy list attempting to turn non-achievements into achievements.

Seriously, I'll probably never watch this speech again. Ever. And it doesn't matter who is giving the speech.

The stupid five or ten minute entry with the stupid applause, members of Congress jockeying for position to be seen on camera, the meaningless golf-clapping applause by people who don't mean it, this side of the chamber gives a standing ovation while the other side of the chamber sits on their hands, blah blah blah.

Not interested in this bullshit. I'm much more interested to see what happens in real life in the months after this pile of crap is forgotten.

Top of mind accomplishments cited:
  • UBL dead
  • 900,000 increase in manufacturing jobs
  • Benghazi attack leader in prison
  • ACA enrolls 18 mln
  • Energy job shifts - from coal to renewables at higher wage rates
Maybe it was a victory lap after all...

Seriously of these which are fantasy? Obviously many more claims, some of which will be a stretch or pure fantasy, but the big hits feel pretty genuine to me. Could be the air I breath here in the People's Republic of Portland but don't think so.

Healthcare more affordable under Obamacare

Iran no longer seeking nuclear weapons

The climate treaty signed in Paris represented any kind of actual tangible achievement

The economy is in good shape and stagnant wages are entirely due to "board rooms"

No mention of:

  • 10 Sailors taken captive TODAY
  • Paris terrorist attacks
  • San Bernadino terrorist attack
  • Philadelphia policeman attacked by an Isis pledge a few days ago

1. One guy is indeed dead.
2. What did President Obama do to increase the number of people employed in manufacturing?
3. Another guy is in prison.
4. How many of those people already had insurance through private insurance companies or Medicaid before ACA?
5. Given all the tax money that has been squandered in the green energy boondoggle under President Obama, I'm not sure this is a subject that I would have brought up.

how many previously uninsured people enrolled in aca and are still enrolled? I honestly don't know just have a feeling you and npr should include it in the victory lap to be completely transparent.

I'm sure FactCheck will grade all this out. I heard substantive claims. Obviously silent on the current Iran issue, ACA benefits likely overstated but still, for all the doom and gloom you hear from the right, the POTUS has done well by Amerika.

Great question - no idea on the real number.

Supported ACA from early on - even when being touted by our friends at the Heritage Foundation, heck even liked John Chafee and Bob Doles HEART reform bill back in 1993.

That ACA was passed, stood up to a SCOTUS review, and is largely intact is nothing short of a political miracle... An accomplishment in and of itself.

How much did Solyndra actually cost the US taxpayers? $535 million or so I think. Out of about $15 bln in loan guarantees there had to be some losses - especially since the program was started to fund difficult projects.

How much benefit has the 2005 Section 1703 DOE Loan Program provided to green energy firms in the US? Would be interesting to see some ROI figures on that. At least these guys made the most of the program: Sempra, 1366 Technologies, Silicor

Who else got duped by Solyndra? Black Rock Capital, Kaiser Family Foundation, Madrone, RockPort Capital, Redpoint, the Walton Family... They lost about $1 bln total. Sorry, but that was about half a scandal.

You could say the same thing about slavery way back when. Not sure that's the sort of standard of achievement we are all looking for.

We passed a law + it was found to be a tax and is therefore constitutional = GREAT ACHIEVEMENT !!!!!!!

Not silly at all!

If ACA is so great why are so many exchanges failing? The big mandates are just now kicking in they were deliberately delayed so Obama could get out of office before the collapse and blame it on someone else.

ACA is a cluster. It's actually made a lot of insurance agents a lot of money but they'll all tell you in private it is a bad program with tons of problems.

Sure the premiums are fantastic for low income people but if you make 40k or more your monthly costs and out of pocket costs are huge. It's basically worthless for a lot of people because if they use it for anything expensive most people are going to go broke.

I wish Vegas or the stock market would come up with a way to make money off of being able to predict that a government program would be terrible. I guess that really isn't feasible given that it is a virtual certainty 100% of the time. You wouldn't know that from listening to people talk about how great the ACA is so who knows? Christian Bale got those bankers at Goldman Sachs to create him a tool to short the housing market so maybe it's possible.
